I doubt the Devils ever get injury free but on the chance they do..
Hall-Nico-Bratt
MoJo-Zacha-Palmieri
Coleman-Zajac-Gibbons
Wood-Boyle-Noesen

Moore-Vatanen
Greene-Santini
Butcher-Severson

Those are 4 good lines and the Zajac line can take the hard matchups like they did against the Kopitar line against the Kings. Ice time distribution would be really good with those as well.

The left side of the defense is still scary bad. Probably won’t be addressed until the offseason but that’s the hole regardless.

I think Butcher is ready for more minutes. He looked very good with Severson. He could very easily become a 3-4 PP specialist. Moore and Greene struggled a lot while Butcher has succeeded, albeit while sheltered.

Butcher looks good because he's not playing the role that Moore and Greene are.

He needs to get stronger and/or quicker or else he will get exposed when playing better competition.

On a side note, I'd have to say Moore - Vatanen has looked surprisingly good as a shutdown duo so far.

They were terrific against LA. Struggled a bit in Montreal, but they held their own quite well.

One thing that worries me is using them two as a shutdown pairing and then Greene - Santini as another pairing just kills offensive potential from our top two pairings.

Fully healthy I'm rolling with:

Hall-Nico-Bratt
MoJo-Zacha-Palms
Gibbons-Zajac-Noesen
Wood-Boyle-Coleman

Give Zacha one last extended run to stick. We really could use him being an adequate middle 6 center. Give him a legit opportunity with those two (especially with a play driver like MoJo) for like 5 games.

Thought Moore and Vatanen were awful against Montreal. Moore was like a -19 on a game we were a -20 on the 5 on 5. They were good in the previous ones, but feels like that Montreal game might be a sign of things to come if that's how they're going to look.

And I don't see why you automatically assume Butcher CAN'T succeed in a bigger role. He's been fantastic possession wise as our 3rd Left D-Man. Most guys that do that well when getting sheltered usually hold their own when their minutes and usage difficulty increases. I think if you pair him with Severson or Vatanen (ideally Severson), and you ask them to play top 4 defenseman minutes, it would be a really solid pairing.

Wrong...everyone does have that ability. It may be harder for some people but everyone has the ability. Come on now. She isn't a little kid, she's a full grown woman. Who is supposed to be a professional beat reporter for an NHL team. If she really can't handle one troll calling her fat without having to get the Devils twitter account involved, that's pretty embarrassing and unprofessional.

It’s almost like you’d think a girl deserves bad things just bc of the way the dressed too, I hope I’m wrong but just because you’re a “public figure” doesn’t mean you should be subjected to crap like that.

We don't really have a defender that can control the game. The best option we really have is just to mitigate the damage at this point. Moore - Vatanen have done fine so far.

Besides, Montreal plays the Corsi-boosting system. Price even facilitates this by rarely covering up the puck and trying to move it up the ice often. Every chance they have the puck gets on net. Face-off in the offensive zone and just throw the puck at the net from all angles. Devils knew this, tied guys up, kept them to the outside, and allowed Schneider to see most of the shots. Montreal didn't have many high quality chances.

On Butcher, you often to see him let guys beat him to the puck or you see him get beat cleanly with speed. He does a good job of covering up for his lack of speed and size, but I'm afraid better players will be able to take advantage of both. Also, the way the Devils are now, they're better off using him in a sheltered offensive role because that's where his strengths are.

I feel that’s the lineup next Thursday against the Rags and we thoroughly embarrass them.

kind of surprised how many people want the hall-hischier-bratt line to stay together when palmieri's healthy. they're all the same kind of player, putting a pure shooter who can grind a little and cycle in palmieri and then moving bratt to another line where he can control the play and set other people up makes so much more sense in my mind

i also think they should put hischier on the other half boards where hall plays on the 2nd pp and put zacha in that shooting position

We played a great game last night - and really the last two games are the best we've looked since the beginning of the season in my opinion.

Bratt is quite a talent. The kids is going to be around this league for a long time. No complaints against anyone. With the three older guys gone, there was lots of room for the youngsters. We outskated the Canadians. Who are making themselves over into a Claude Julien club; maybe likes to counter attack fast, but Julien likes heavy teams and grind. Unfortunately for Montreal, those days are gone. You can build a competitive team that way, but not a winner.

Noesen is making a case for staying in the lineup no matter who returns. He's going to keep playing. Someone else will sit when we are back to full strength.

The Amanda Stein thing just shows how the internet brings out the worst as well as the best in the population. This board only works because it's moderated. That's universally true. Otherwise you get rants, phony accounts, trolls . . . just the gutter. Twitter won't police their site, because it's more profitable not to. There's money in allowing the trolls to play. Thus the modern social medial world.

i agree. i don't think i want bratt on our first line. not that he hasn't earned it, but i'd rather put palms on there and spread it out a bit

I just think putting Palmieri on that line loads that up too much. Who is Bratt going to “set up” if he’s dropped down to the 2nd line?

Twitter, Facebook and Instagram do police their websites. If they didn't police their websites why would you be able to report posts and accounts?

They're the most inept police ever though. Twitter especially. They'll suspend you for jokingly telling your buddy you're gonna slap him, but there are literally Nazis just like casually talking about genocides with no repercussions.

Yeah that and when you hear the news reports "pro-ISIS social media accounts are celebrating the attack." Why are ISIS members allowed on Twitter

fair enough. i like bratt because i feel like we could drop him in almost anywhere...and not matching against a team’s top defensive pair might free him up a bit. he’s good at not just setting people up, he’s good at creating space, which i think would be beneficial for mojo and others
