Why argue with me? Apparently there's a bit of a bidding war going on among several NHL teams, including Detroit at around 3 yrs x $3 MM.

That apparently is his market value.

Oh ok, well then discourse shall end since there's a bidding war for Cleary. I hope your arguments aren't all completely based on speculation of what others are doing. Good talk.

And if it really was his market value, he'd be signed for that by now

I provided my analysis of his skill set, how he could be used, and the term and $$ I personally think he has. Secondly-- others have reported that several teams are interested, including the Wings and a general figure/term was thrown out.

What more did you want?

I don't think Cleary is valuable unless he plays the way he has been since coming to Detroit. His body can't hold up, that's a shame - but he doesn't have the skill or skating to play any other way.

and i provided my analysis, yet you said "why argue with me" because teams might sign him.

so he'll be a specialist...at what, exactly? He's not a goal scorer anymore, and if he isn't grinding (which is apparently the value seen for him on the Wings), then he's just the last guy into the defensive zone each time.

That wasn't an analysis as much as it was rhetorical suggestion. You've decided that there are a couple of options, while I suggested he could be a top six, depth forward with flexibility to be used in multiple situations. Then I pointed out that several NHL teams see some value there that not many on this board will admit is there.

So you said Cleary wouldn't be grinding in his new role (to save his body), but you stated very generally that he could be used in multiple situations. My questions was...what situations? What role will he play? a top-6 depth forward seems a bit oxymoronic.

The analysis followed the bold part, stating he's not a scorer. So if he's not a grinder (per you) and not a scorer (per me), what is he?

Sure, Cleary can be used in multiple situations as a top six replacement occasionally, or a depth forward, etc.,

The question is, do you think this helps Detroit especially with his price tag of 3x3?

Other team's might find what Cleary brings to the table as an asset.

I just think Detroit already has enough forwards and players who can fit in on the depth chart if need be.

If we could trade Sammy's contract to Cleary I'd be fine with that. But it's a tough pill to swallow if somehow we have to carry, Sammy, Cleary, Tootoo, bertuzzi on the team next year.

I'd think it's just a waste of our young assets that can easily replace the roles we would ask Sammy, Cleary, Tootoo, Bertuzzi, etc., to fill and a ELC deal as opposed to something that is 2+ million.

Also, looking at the 2014 potential UFA's, (way better UFA class then 2013) I don't want to have any 35+ locked up for more than a year so we can hopefully sign some highly skilled UFA's next year ie. (Vanek, Boyle, Bouwmeester, Sedin twins, etc.,) sure it may be a pipe dream now, but I'd want the cap space available in order to pursue these players.

Cleary would be fine at 3 million for one year. But anything longer than that will handicap Holland's off season next year.

I like Cleary.
I do not like Cleary at the terms he wants (or the terms Holland wants, which scares me).

I think Cleary would be great to keep on the roster if used properly.
Babcock will not use him properly, and will put him in the top 6 taking time away from Nyquist/Tatar/better players.

That's pretty much the long and short of it.

I have never been a fan of how Cleary is used by Babcock, because I think the ideal player for that type of role should be a few inches taller and maybe 30 lbs heavier. So, no, if Babs still wants him to do the same type of thing? Let him move on and use the money elsewhere.

Well it's not a real Ken Holland off season if i don't get to use this image to describe my state of mind after witnessing Holland sign another washed up piece of garbage.
