The US has more registered hockey players than Canada. Yet Canada still wins more often, again this registered players mumbo jumbo has been thoroughly debunked, it's time to stop grasping at that.

View attachment 631337

The bigger issue for the USA Hockey is the lack of access to quality athletes, Unlike Canada hockey is way down on the totem poll. There's just a higher chance Canada's greatest athletes will play hockey.

I mean we'd be producing 20 Bedards a year if hockey was as popular as football or basketball.

This is the reason many Americans roll our eyes. Canada is certainly better, but not to an overwhelming degree in a sport that is only regional in popularity here.

It's a bit like hearing Borat brag about Kazakhstan's superior potassium output.:dunno:

The US would not be producing 20 Bedards a year lol, an easy way to prove this wrong is just to look at sports the US really likes like NFL Football and NBA Basketball, the US isn't producing 20 LeBron's a year, nor are they producing 20 Tom Brady's a year. Absurd cope take.

1963-1976 the soviets dominated world championship games....

look it up in wikipedia..

Amazing. A team of their best players that played together year round honing a system beat an ad hock bunch of amateurs. How did they manage it? Again, best on best, Canada has dominated. The only sport I can think of where one country dominates more than Canada does in hockey is the US in basketball. Even that I would have to look it up to see if they've done better than 10 out of 16 international best on best tournaments.

yeah...when they get that american citizenship, they'll abandon their canadian heritage...

Vast majority are just there for decades on special sports work visas, also the families of these Canadian players still remain in Canada and many of these players maintain summer properties, cottages etc in Canada.

Obviously when you live and work somewhere for a long time you're going to meet a local woman and naturally settle there. This doesn't seem to have had any effect on Canada being successful in hockey.

That was a figure of speech, ace.

Nonetheless, Brady and Labron are way, way more rare than Bedard given the global talent pool for all sports.

Fact remains we'd be producing McDavid, Crosby and Bedard level talents at an expetional rate if our best athletes played hockey. This is why many of us roll our eyes. Sure Canada is better than us. Congrats. But, again, its kind of like hearing Borat brag about potassium.
Nothing more, nothing less.

Ever think that maybe there are other things to do in the USA and other sports to play?
How many Canadians in the MLB, NBA and NFL? LOL
Neat, you domintate ONE sport, here's a cookie.

We won CONCACAF last year, and frequently finish in the top 4 medal count in the winter Olympics (including out medaling the USA in the past two games). We are also a force in lacrosse and women's soccer (Gold in Tokyo 2020)

One sport nation, indeed.

Ya that isn't how it works, the US has more registered hockey players than Canada and 10x our population. On a sheer number basis the US even has more hockey fans than Canada does.

The fact remains that you would not be producing McDavid, Crosby and Bedard level talents at an exceptional rate, if that were true the US would have already produced at least one of those level players in their history but they haven't.

The US has never ever produced a player of Crosby's calibre or McDavid, literally ever. That alone proves your hypothesis wrong, and again the US isn't pumping out a generational football or basketball player every year, in fact the best basketball player this coming draft is a Frenchman, Victor Wembanyama, last year it was an Italian Paolo Branchero.

LOL!

This is fantastic.

"But, again, its kind of like hearing Borat brag about potassium."

Sure that makes sense. Well it does if we all just watched a potassium competition where you got your ass beat then decided to hop on to a potassium forum to talk about how great your potassium would be if you had more people invested in potassium but potassium isn't even that great anyway so who cares and please make sure that the reporters include that you're not mad.

It's not your honest opinion or you'd be posting on a potassium extraction forum instead of a hockey one.

Seriously how big of a sore loser do you have to be to go on a hockey forum and downplay a rival teams win because hockey isn't important.

This Canada vs Cesko thread is weirdly invaded by US politics.

Either delete those political posts or close the thread ?

Feel bad for czech posters, cause I just came here to congratulate them for the great run of their team.

Jesus christ  That's been the trend for the past few years, before it was different. You Canadians always find the way to cherrypick, win or lose we sUpErIoR and DoMiNaTiNg, well enjoy, you clearly need that boost.
Lmao,
WC are for NHL teams that don’t make the playoffs, and for those players that feel like actually going,

Even so Canada is still the most successful country at the WC, personally I don't mind it. Yes the best players aren't usually there but I think its a good test for depth, winning the Skoda's every few years and the odd back to back is good with me.

Oddly enough the participants, quality of coaching and access are primarly the same. I think that is why we are so close right now. Over the next 50-100 years I feel like the USA will be more dominant due to the amount of resources they can inject into the game.

If you know your history, the Soviets weren't a well oiled machine in 1972. It was a team fractured by political infighting who had no experience in a Stanley Cup-like extended series format.
In many ways it was Canada who had the advantage.
That’s so wrong.

Nope. Your only proving that Canada is better on a per capita basis. But this is not suprising considering hockey is your #1 sport in a culture permated with it.

It's similar to comparing Slovakia to Great Britain. GB has more players, but the chance of GB's best athletes playing the sport is not even comparable to Slovakia's.

We havent produced a McDavid because the chances of an exceptional talent playing hockey is exceedingly low here relative to up north.

I think people really put too much stock into number of registered players and population. Finland literally has 5 million people and they've been much better at the mens level than the US has been for decades now. It isn't always about sheer numbers as much as it is culture, passion and will to win.

Nah you have 10x the population, you should already be better at hockey. US isn't even that good at soccer than Canada. That's actually sad.

Lol that moment when you realize more Americans live in cold weather climates than Canadians do, Americans should have plenty of opportunity to produce a generational player, but they never really have. You're grasping at straws here tbh.
