Does Max ****ing McCormick really have a one way contract with the club?

That's absolutely stupid. He's an AHL player and we're a budget team. No way he has a one way. There must be a typo.

He has a 1 way next season. It's a league minimum contract. He had leverage when negotiating his previous deal as he was a UFA.

It is what it is, but I'd imagine he's basically going to be our 13th or 14th forward in 18-19, which considering he makes league minimum is a good thing for a budget team.

He reminds me of a less skilled Pyatt with jam. Not that Pyatt is that skilled to begin with

What leverage?

I respect your stance , but maybe they would have seen him walk this year without the one year one way included... He scored 21 goals on a lousy Bingo team last year and he plays with heart and will fight and stand up for his team mates.. I could see the Sens really wanting him to be part of the Belleville team this year. There are quite a few young guys and new faces down there. A 1 way contract just means he gets paid more if he plays in the AHL he can still be waived. If there are better players available for that 4th line grinder role that he will play , I don't think the league minimum salary will be prohibitive.

That could have been it, or there could have been genuine interest in him from other teams, I don't know. Maybe he very well took the Sens to school in negotiations and is now 650k richer.... I'm just saying, he was a UFA so it's plausible he had leverage if the Senators valued keeping him in their organisation, which they clearly did.

If you think the Senators were wrong to value keeping him, sure that's fair.

It's just stupid. Every team has 20 McCormicks, he's proven nothing at the NHL level except that he isn't an NHL player. Shades of the Boro signing who got a 3 year one way contract after 20 subpar NHL games.

Almost 6 mill in salaries for Burrows, Boro, Thompson, McCormick

14 mill for Phaneuf and Ryan.

We have to be one of the worst cap managing teams in the league. A money scrounging budget team at that!

Thank the lord for Boucher and Karlsson.

Well at least it's better than the 9.75 million for Cowen, Greening and Michalek we paid.

I'd say Bobby was worth his cap this year, and last year all considering.
Phaneuf is probably worth around 4-5million so we're overpaying by 2 million for a top 6 F and and a top 4D. These are our "worst" contracts right now. I'd say our cap management is adequate.

Hopefully Max comes out banging and bashing. We're going to need it against the Kings.

Boucher likes Burrows, Thompson and Boro and probably doesn't hate McCormick.
This team has really looked excellent for stretches this year. It would be nice for them to stay healthy for a bit and get on a role. Even the game vs the Canucks and the Devils after the road trip there were periods of domination... with those sucky overpaid players. Every team has room for improvement if you could hand pick players you want on the roster... A coach has to mold a team.. A team is made up of a variety of players.

It doesn't really work that way. If those guys are all going to be in the NHL (next year for McCormick when his 1 way kicks in), we're not spending 6M on those guys....we're paying whatever the difference is between those guys salary, and league minimum since we'd have to have replacement players if we didn't sign them.....although, players rarely sign for league minimum....

None of those contracts have bad cap hits on paper. I didn't like how aggressively the Senators went after Thompson with a NTC and his salary given how little hockey he has played due to injuries over the past few years along with the optics of giving a 4th line/PK specialist a NTC, but on paper what he is making is ball park for a 4th line centre.

I don't like the 2 year term on the Burrows deal, but if we replace him, we aren't getting a veteran 3rd liner for cheaper cap wise, so I don't have much of a problem with his cap hit.

Boro's contract is very cheap for his role, and McCormick's 1 way next year is league minimum. Whether or not you like them in their roles is a different story, but getting players the team is intent on using that cheap isn't a waste of salary.

We're really spending about 3.4M on getting our ideal players there, but even then that number is high because it is very very rare for players to sign for 650k and that number assumes whoever we'd have replacing the four players you mentioned would be making league minimium. You can't take the good of Guy Boucher (the Sens actually being a consistent effective team) without some of the bad (being extremely picky over players, and needing 4 lines of depth). It's pretty clear to get the most out of Boucher, we need to spend on guys like Burrows and Thompson that he is comfortable with deploying, otherwise we get what we had last year where he is barely playing Puempel/Kelly/Neil/Lazar as 4th liners, and double shifting our top 9ers which over an 82 game season+playoffs would result into them being driven into the ground.
