From the non Blues prospects, Colton Huard seems interesting-ish?

Who has the bad contracts? Binnington and Krug?

I don't see how these two contracts are sinking us. At worst, Binnington can be a back up goalie in the NHL. Krug is the wipping boy but he can be a third pairing guy.
$12.5M on a backup goalie and 3rd pair D man represents a pretty damn big hole in the boat. Even if you value a 3rd pair guy at $3M and a backup at $2.5M, that's $7M of dead money that can't be ignored/mitigated with LTIR. $7M of fully dead money is a huge issue to trying to build a contending team in a league with an $83.5M hard salary cap.

I think Binner is more than an NHL backup, so I wouldn't say we have quite this much fully dead money. I also don't agree that this team can't be competitive for several more years and simply has to wait 4 years for bad contracts to expire. I think there are absolutely ways to climb out of the hole.

But you absolutely need to get a hell of a lot more than NHL backup and 3rd pair guy out of that type of long-term cap commitments.

I’m looking forward to seeing Robertsson in action I’d be happy if he can make the Thundertopes this year and get a call-up or 5.

He's still unsigned, so for now he's going back to Skelleftea. Blues hold his rights untill june 1st 2025.

I've been intrigued by Kaskimaki and also will be curious to see how Dickinson is looking.
Same.

Both were injured last Prospects Camp so will be good to see how they compare to their peers.

Kaskimaki is lightning fast. Was hard to get a read on him this season as the first half of the season, he stayed with the Sr team but was either scratched or playing 2-5 minutes per game. Scored 3 goals in 41 games. Then started playing more and scored 3 goals (4 points) in 7 playoff games. HIFK needs to either trust him and play him or loan him out somewhere where he can actually play quality minutes.

The word on Dickinson last July was that he was close to returning and was hopeful he’d be able to start the season on time. Then…nothing. And he never played a single game. Hopefully he can at least participate in the scrimmages this year. Would be awesome if he’s able to somehow get his career back on track.

I feel like this is going to be the most excited I’ve been about a prospect camp since the Thompson, Thomas, Kyrou, and Kostin days. Maybe even more so if we make all 3 firsts.

We do. And its possible.

I just read the book Cinderella Man. Six months before James J. Braddock won the heavyweight championship, Braddock was not rated as among the top 20 heavyweights in boxing.
To add to your statement in bold:

Player: Drafted Overall
ROR: 33rd
Kyrou: 35th
Faulk: 37th
Buch: 75th
Parayko: 86th

At some point we need a “surprise” prospect to come out of nowhere
I'd say we sort of had that recently. Snuggerud performed way above his draft status last season. I haven't really thought about where he'd go in a re-draft and it's really early for that, but he'd certainly be closer to a top 10 pick than a #23 pick. Alexandrov is someone that really elevated his game last season and almost produced ppg numbers in the minors. And Tucker looking like a real NHL player as a 7th round pick is amazing value. Zherenko as a 7th looks promising as well.

I want to see what guys like Gaudet and Beck do once they turn pro and don't want to put too much stock into performances at junior and collegiate level, but they have some late-round gem type upside as well.

I'm pretty satisfied with a bunch of the prospects either performing above their draft positions or upping their game like Alexandrov did.

Torpo is starting to look like a great pick at #113 overall. He established himself as a 6'6" 10 goal 4th line player with snarl by 23 years old. I think a lot of people believe that he can still take another step.

Tucker is looking like a legit NHL D man and he was taken #200 overall.

Hofer is a damn good prospect for someone taken #107 overall. He has done everything you can ask out of a goalie prospect in the AHL, already looks like a high end NHL puckhandler, has the frame of an NHL starter and held his own at the NHL level during his cup of coffee as a 22 year old. He will be the NHL backup next year and has 2 years on a cheap deal to prove that he should be the guy here.

I'm not sure if the late 2nd is 'out of nowhere' but Alexandrov is showing more than what I expected out of him by this point in his career. He's not going to become a superstar, but he looks like he might be noticeably more than just a 4th liner by the time he's 25.

That's 4 guys from the 2017-2019 drafts who are 'out of nowhere candidates.

Who's better Gaudet or buchinger?
I think folks are sleeping on Gaudet. He is probably closer to NHL ready, and while he doesn't have Buchinger's high-end skating I think his size and hockey sense might be superior. They are both good (not great) prospects with solid chance to be legit NHLers, but I lean slightly to Gaudet.
