I really think it would be best for the team to get their AHL team in Gatineau.

If they are going to move, Gatineau would be a great option. They could then run some joint practices the way the Leafs and Marlies do, entrenching the same system organization wide. This is a professional idea.

Belleville, Kingston, Cornwall, Pembroke type of cities would not allow for that. would not allow that.

I can't believe there is no thread on this yet...

http://www.intelligencer.ca/2016/04/25/ottawa-senators-ahl-team-for-belleville

This is potentially highly significant. Our AHL team gets a full hour closer with no border crossing, all the people in that region get the Sens TSN regional broadcasts, and all of the club's expenses would be in Canadian dollars. Provided the good people of Bingo get another AHL club right away to replace the Senators, I say bring it...

Ooooh that would be amazing!

I'd love to take a mini road trip and see the B-Sens from time to time.

IF this goes through... good news for Ottawa, I guess, but man do I feel gutted for Binghamtonians. (Binghamtonites?) To have been through so much jerking around from various AHL teams over the years and now to lose another team would really blow.

Said it in the BSens thread but Gatineau makes a lot of sense if the team wants to ensure the same system top to bottom. Leafs and Marlies run joint practices from time to time just to get this instilled. Spreads the coaching talent around too. Would probably allow for the organization to get some specialized coaches - lets say a coach that focuses on only centres, the way a goalie coach does with goalies. We certainly could use a PP/PK centric specialist.

Belleville, Cornwall, Kingston, Pembroke type of cities are too far away for that.

Won't work in Gatineau folks. You gotta deal with all the Quebec politics...it will take about 5 years to happen.

I'd love it in Bellville. I could make the trip out from Toronto pretty easily. Get a better rivalry with Toronto.

I like it!

While I whole heartedly would like to see this I'm not so sure the Gatineau Olympique junior team would, especially if it takes customers away from them. From a business perspective I also think that team management may be aware of this & would not want to compete with them or hurt their business model in any way. However, if the Olympique were to fold or move then that would be a great replacement for Gatineau but I don't see that happening anytime soon but you never know.

I'm not sure what the advantages are to move the team to Bellville but there must be some economic advantages other than just a little closer to Ottawa to get players back & forth easier. Binghamton has a long tradition with the AHL & has had a lot of support & a very good following for the team there. While Bellville is less than a 3 hour bus ride from Ottawa starting fresh in a new city they would have to build up their fan base which I would guess are mostly Leaf fans. I would hate to see when the Marlies play the Sens, the arena be full of Leaf fans booing the Sen players in their own rink .... AGAIN. :shakehead

Of course, if they move to Gatineau the arena would be full of Hab fans. Here is a better idea, when they move to the new arena down town, the B-Sens can move into the CTC & everyone can practise together at the SensPlex just down the road. If that happened I would probably buy B-Sens season tickets so I wouldn't have to go downtown. :handclap:

From what I've read, they would do it IF they can find another team to take up an affiliate in Binghamton.

That would be great as well. My thought though is Melnyk will need to sell CTC to finance his end of the Lebreton arena. If he doesn't then this would be even a better solution. Call them the Ottawa Guardsmen or similar in honour of our new found Defensive strategies ...

What can the B Sens realistically look like next season? If we consider that everybody eligible is there? (So Gagne, Englund, etc.)

Hopefully Binghamton can find a replacememt team! Maybe the Isles?

I just hope we don't get left high and dry.

By the sounds of it, Binghamton is such a good market that someone else will swoop in if the Sens move. Personally, I doubt it happens. At least this year. It's a really good arrangement currently and apparently Belleville would have to upgrade the arena for this to work so I doubt it's on the table for 2016-17. Plenty of time to find another NHL team to move in.

I've been to few Sens games in Binghamton and I love the fans there. I have a very hard time imagining Broome without an AHL team.

Two clubs are currently interested in relocating to Bingo..however, there's a lot of work to accomplish (and some luck) if it'll happen in 2017-'18.

Most likely it'll take place when the final 2 years of the 5 year agreement is up. Either way, there's going to be some changes.

IF Ottawa wants out let them go now, no sense having them here lame duck is there..... We saw that lame duck with that manure team of Doug and the doormats....... Let Mitchel and the ownership group have a good payday selling the team to Ottawa..... Then the county can sell the Arena to SUNY and be rid of it...... As for the AHL caring about the city that is pure BS as they don't give a flying puck...... As for another AHL team coming to Binghamton again let's be real there are many other bigger cities teams would go to..... Put and end to it as this area is so depressed after IBM said goodbye, and no thanks to the ECHL..... Sell the rink to the college and let hockey here die in peace............................

You're a little (ok, alot) off base there my friend. AHL hockey will remain here for the foreseeable future after Ottawa and Bingo split.

Gatineau just makes sense because its a good way to convert fans to Ottawa fans, plus it also sort of unites a community that is somewhat separated. If it is true about the Arena for the Olympiques expiring the sens should pounce.

Haven't heard anything on who steps into Richardson's shoes. Any vibes out there. Is a guy like Groulx a candidate? I imagine guys mentioned in the Sens coaching job, currently either Assistants or AHL themselves would not be interested.
