Hey guys I am running a simple one-year Yahoo fantasy league. If you're interested in joining just follow this link: https://hockey.fantasysports.yahoo....on?key=06ffc87be3653b3e&ikey=4615f365f30361c1

Need at least 1 more team.

Great! I joined as the Stockholm Rockets.

It's a restart every year right with a new draft? I realize there is a countdown to the draft but I am not too involved in that keeper deal so I'm not sure if those have redrafts of some kind as well.

Notes from the 1st game of the NHL season (via my Pattycam):

1. Marleau's line (Leafs 3rd line with Kadri and Komarov) took the opening face-off.
2. Marleau had the team's first quality shot off of a pass on the rush just after 5 minutes in.
3. Marleau did not kill the first penalty but was on the 1st unit for the second PK and on the 2nd unit for the 3rd pK of the opening period.
4. Marleau scored his first goal of the season in the 2nd period when FINALLY on the ice at the same time as Matthews, receiving a pass from the youngster and using his soft hands to put the puck in the net.
5. Marleau scored his 2nd goal of the season in the third period with his 3rd line mates.
6. Marleau's career still has a chapter yet to be written and the Hall might still await him. Stay tuned...

The NHL leader in goals scored is...

...

Patrick Marleau with 2 tonight.

Boy, let me tell ya... Marleau looks good as a leaf... And he looks GREAT with Matthews.

I was at tonight's game. Best 370 bucks I ever spent.

I think VI is much more of a fan of Marleau than of any particular team.
Indeed. Just like I always cheered Yzerman on but thought a perfect game was a Stevie Y hat trick in a 4-3 Wings loss! :snide: (Though Matthews is growing on me and Nylander can move the puck...)

Best 370 bucks I ever spent.
I see you've never been to Thailand.:naughty:

The best part about all this is that Marleau played his first NHL game a few weeks after Matthews was born.

And in all seriousness, i think vanislander is now following a ninth team

I thought it was 11 now?

I would absolutely read this! I'd also charge a handsome fee to be the guy who changes all the fonts to the same size.

You don't quit, do you? Well, I ain't using my nhl.com subscription to click on and watch Carolina vs. Arizona games. I'd rather watch the Nashville vs. Washington game I missed.

:caps:nashville:vegas ... I'll watch every game this season. Sometimes LIVE but thanks to NHL.com one can see commercial-free games much quicker the next day (time zone differences here work out perfectly: I start teaching at 3pm eastern time, midnight Pacific which is the following afternoon here in South Korea.

I'll watch a lot of: :rangers:sabres:sharks

I'll cetainly follow and see some of (and abbreviated games of): :nucks:bruins:habs and Pattycam watch or at least highlight search for Marleau in Leaf games.

I WILL NOT BOTHER to watch Arizona, Calgary, Carolina, Chicago, Colorado, Columbus, Dallas, Detroit, Anaheim, Edmonton, Florida, Los Angeles, Minnesota, New Jersey, NYI, Ottawa, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, or Winnipeg. I might check out highlights of fantasy players I have, and regular media highlights on impulse, and of course when those teams play against teams I give a fig about I might see them play.

The great thing about watching 6 or so teams as a dedicated fan is that you have 1 to 3 games to watch every day of the season! :towel:That's one to three hours of games on nhl.com (turn scores off - one of the best functions of nhl.com - and watch them after they are over and you skip sooooooooooooo many delays and intermissions yet watch every second of on-ice play).

Nice win by the Vegas Magnetos last night.
Oh, yeah! I bet $5,000 on Sportsbook that the Knights would win and it paid out $11,000 !
Also, on page 2, post 46 of the GDT on the Vegas board I noted pregame that the line of the night might be Perron-Eakin-Neal and sure enough it was. To top it off, I got six "likes" for my postgame comments:
Time for the VI Post-Game Smilies Report:

1. Dallas knows a thing or two about non-goals (that backward flop early in the game). :ha:
2. Love the compete level of the Knights! :thumbu:
3. Roussel all upset about getting a penalty for playing the puck while he was still in the box!
4. The defensive play looks good! Not a lot of quality chances against, mostly bad angles, far away.
5. Seguin all upset about getting hurtsy wortsy on a finishing check by Neal late in the 2nd period. :toothless
6. Perron ROBBED on a great individual effort that ended in a glovehand save.:puppy:
7. #21 Cody Eakin stood out everywhere: hustlin' for loose pucks, stickhandling, trying to be physical.
8. Neal delivered on his best two quality chances.:towel::towel:
9. Fleury played well but kuddos to the coaches and defensive play of the skaters.:yo:
10. Of the not so many high quality chances against, the opposition looked rusty.
I've made 208 posts in the last 8 days or so under this new board format. I'm starting to see its advantages.

The older you are, does the dumber the average hockey fan seems to get?

I hear posters say Laine has the best shot ever, Kane is a few years away from being the best Hawk ever, Gretzky has nothing on McDavid, Crosby & Malkin are better than Mario and young Jagr, and Ovechkin is over the hill (though this last one has quieted down in recent days...).

Imagine if some guy from New Jersey, living in Vegas, decided to put some big bills on his hometown team and his new team for the heck of it. The last two unbeaten teams! :amazed: No one other than that guy (if he even exists) would have predicted it.

I did predict (over on the Vegas board) that the Knights would have a 6-2-2 start because of several reasons: A coach who doesn't have quit and won't tolerate mediocrity, a solid forward core and very good netminding, a blueline full of UFAs and RFAs after this season playing for their next contract, a schedule with Arizona twice, Buffalo, Colorado, Detroit and a 7-game home stand in the first 10 games.

But I can't imagine who would have been big on both Vegas and New Jersey other than a resident of both.

Did it setiously cost 370 bucks to watch a hockey game?

Yes. the decision was made at the last minute to go to this game. I blame my brother. I wasn't even aware the Leafs first game was in Winnipeg. The day before he says "hey, there are still tickets available to the leafs/jets game in Winnipeg for $105, we should go".

Well that piqued my interest, and I was hooked onto the idea by the time I realized that he meant "available on stubhub", so my initial assumption of CAD$105 just became USD$105 plus USD$30 fees. Then my brother bowed out and I ended up going with just my cousin (BudsBuster on this board) and he convinced me that if we were going to spend CAD$190 to drive there and sit in the nosebleeds why not buy good tickets. There were plenty better ones out there, and cheaper ones, but the best overall value were these ones by the Jets net in row 10 (lower bowl of course). After fees and exchange we paid CAD$370 each.

Not something I want to make a habit of doing.

It turns out in November the Leafs go to Calgary and the Okotoks Boston Pizza has dozens of season tickets in the nosebleeds and for $60 you can go to the game, get bussed from BP to the game and back, and get a $10 gift card. Genius on their part, really. Me and about a dozen others are going to load up in two SUVs and make that trip. Tickets are already bought. Not nearly the same experience as we had in Winnipeg, but also.... not nearly the price.

I paid something a long the lines of what seventies paid when I went to NYC 2-3 years ago for a playoff game and I didn't even root for any of the teams playing but it was fun going to an NHL game at the garden. Will I do it again? Doubtful, the prices are not sane even if you can afford it.

I would never pay that. Not in a million years. Todays hockey standards isnt worth that price at all.
