Where’s all this Hertl stuff coming from? Are we just listing players in the league we would like on the bruins or is there any semblance of talk that he may be available for the right offer?

I want mcdavid

Sharks are not making the playoffs this season. They are in a difficult position for the next season as they need to resign Labanc, sign a 1B goaltender, find replacement for Thornton and Marleau, improve the D. I think they will listen to any interesting offer for Hertl.

Southwestern Ontario
Tomas Hertl, 26, 6' 2, RW/LW, 5.6M cap hit till 2022
Blake Coleman, 28, 5' 11, RW/LW/C, 1.8M cap hit till 2021

Hertl for the 2nd rd pick* + Heinen + Senyshyn + Zboril
Coleman for Grzelcyk
* conditional first if SCF
***********************

Marchand - Bergeron - Pastrnak
Coleman - Krejci - Hertl
DeBrusk - Coyle - Bjork
Nordstrom - Kuraly - Wagner
Lindholm/Backes

Chara - Carlo
McAvoy - Krug
Clifton - Moore
Vaak/Lauzon

Hertl would be perfect fit for the bruins but highly doubt the sharks would ever consider trading him.

You seem fairly confident that DeBrusk can effectively man the RW. I was too a while ago, but now I’m not so sure.

I feel if Heinen goes as part of a deal for Kreider (I’ll assume that’s part of your proposal) that it really does force DeBrusk into that spot.

Bjork can take the 3rd line LW spot with Coyle and (IMO) Kuhlman, because I don’t believe he’s top six yet and it kind of leaves us in a similar position to where we’ve been for years (“fill the HOLE”).

Can you convince me that DeBrusk can succeed like we need him to on Krejci’s right?

Honestly MMB I have no idea where the notion that he can’t play right wing is coming from.

It’s not coming from DeBrusk, he says he’s just as comfortable on either side and I believe he played some right wing in Junior. It’s not coming from Cassidy, they’ve played him on both sides. It’s not coming from management, they’re number one target for much of last year was Brayden Schenn, whose presence would have most likely moved DeBrusk to the right.

To my eyes, he’s looked every bit as good on the right as on the left. His most important goals have come from him driving down the right. I’ve researched his goals and he scored just as many goals from the right as the left last year (slight more actually). He's also had some spectacular games at RW with Mojo and Cehlarik on the left.

For me, it's a complete non-issue, but I know it's a hang up for some people which is why I had the option of Bjork there too. Bjork has played more RW than LW and seems to get better every week. If you really don't like DeBrusk there, you can keep him on LW with Coyle and gain a big mismatch.

The offensive zone is the least important element where the handedness of your shot comes into play, with the exception of the powerplay, where some coaches are adamant.

Getting the puck out of the defensive zone is next and the most important, at least in my view, is the neutral zone. I've always thought playing your off side in the defensive zone can help the ease of taking/intercepting passes back up the boards, but can see the other side's argument, which is mostly about stick position. Neutral zone, though, if you can't pass or receive a pass just as well on your off side, you have no business over there. I think that last bit could apply to Debrusk.

I agree, but those breakout concepts that we picture when we talk about handedness for wings are pretty basic and disappearing as the game evolves. In the Bruins system, the first backchecker becomes the center, so there are shifts where DeBrusk is down low and Krejci is on the wing. That great give and go goal against Toronto in the playoffs last year came off that exact rotation. Even when the center is the one down low, our wings are told to leave the zone early and stretch the play. There are more off the glass indirect to the neutral zone breakout passes than there are D to the W on the wall breakout passes. And when we do go D to W that wing is usually just trying to chop the puck past the forechecking D and squirt it into the neutral zone. So I don't think handedness matters as much as it used to when it comes to getting the puck out, and once you're out of the zone there are no lanes or positions anymore, everyone crosses and swings.

lol see his defense and goaltending?

now plus minus is all of a sudden relevant?
in fairness he's a team worst -16, which is a pretty ugly number for about halfway through the season.

With that said I'd definitely take him here. He fits the blueprint and this team's got the system and discipline (and goaltending) to mitigate the +/- concerns.

Going into 2020 and we still have not addressed the secondary scoring woes. First and Forth lines are set. Get rid of some deadwood that has had more time then enough to impress and failed.

Anyone noticing Wood today?

Miles Wood lol...sounded horrible.

I wouldn't mind wood on the Bruins, but I think his hockey IQ isn't the greatest and he doesn't see the ice all that well. I've watched the devils last three games and he's had some players pretty open in prime scoring areas and hasn't gotten them the puck.

would I take him on the bruins with out question but I wouldn't play him in front of Bjork,Debrusk and of course Marchand. So on the bruins he would basically be a 4th line winger, but his speed and toughness would be a welcome addition.

We’ve played them twice now and both times he stick out to me for his quickness and tenacity. We play them again in two days, keep an eye on him and let me know what you think.

Simmonds does look quite a bit better this year than last, at least his skating. I mean he's not going to win many races, but his hockey sense/IQ and toughness would be a nice addition, he would be an ideal fit for the 3rd line RW and like you said he can handle the Wilsons of the world when needed.

He would also look nice on the first unit PP as well, with his net front presence.

Last year he was a one zone player, he just couldn't get it going enough to join the rush or get back on the back check, that would be my only worry about him as the season go's on.

Is there such things as Shootout specialists who are forth liners coz this team needs a couple of them. They suck at them.
