Larsson is not a 3/4 defenceman, and whether you think a low first, a 3/4 C prospect and a CONDITIONAL first is a lot or not, it’s not enough and not something Edmonton should even consider.

Would you trade Rielly for 10th, Bear, and a conditional first?
Fair enough. Don’t watch much of Larsson. Was going by how some fans around these parts were viewing him.

The oilers aren't trading Larsson. Who plays the right side Benning?

To have a good d core the oilers need another dman to play right side.

If we trade Larsson for another dman we are still looking for a dman to play the right side and now we have added the risk of the new dman not gelling with team/coach, won't like city etc. Whereas Larsson is a known quality.

Usually the people saying that kind of thing either A) have barely watched him play or B) have an agenda/wildly overrate the pieces they’re giving up.

Crapping on the Oilers is always in vogue.

Taylor Hall was available for the exact same package and your current front office got Adam Larsson for him. There is no reason for another organization to give up a real #1D for Larsson.

Fans can come on the internet and try to establish their organization's position on player value but it is pretty evident that solely based on player impact on the ice, Larsson is not a #1D and at best, he's a complimentary player on a top pairing. The Maple Leafs played Ron Hainsey in that role and it was satisfactory.

There is no way or need they should or will trade significant assets for a player with obvious limitations like Adam Larsson.
Edmonton doesn't want to trade Larsson either, so good for you.

Lol Larsson ? I’d trade a middling prospect or a late round pick. He’s hot garbage
Much better defensively then any Leafs Dman. Main reason why they get spanked in the playoffs, well that and they are soft as butter and players like Matthews and Nylander are horrible in the playoffs.

Larsson is not available and Nylander and his butter soft play is not wanted. We traded a much better player then Nylander who plays hard and is not soft to get Larsson..

Nylander will not get a high end Dman. He is to soft for the playoffs and other teams can see that.

Seriously...what are you trying to say here?

Nice avatar...but you can do better.

The hole isn't that massive
the oilers highest scoring winger (assuming mcd, drai, rnh are C) had 13g/34pts
thats pretty massive. sliding RNH or drai to winger gives them exactly 1 winger capable of playing a top 6 role...

Nylander + Morgan Reilly for Larsson and 10th pick.
Toronto can't be greasy and get larsson for nothing. He is stellar defensive D man.

so wait we give up the Better dman, then move a 60+pt young gun for a mystery box pick in a slot where the talent drops off?

as a leaf fan I wouldnt do rielly straight up for this putrid package. Nylander straight up id think about. Both, not a chance

Which has zero relevance to the fact that Larsson is a better defender than any Leafs defenceman.

He’s not built for this era. He can’t move the puck or provide offence. If your goal is to just defend in your own zone all game sure. He’s a big body and can move a man in front of the net but that’s it. That’s only a small part of hockey. He’s useless other then that and he’s a terrible pker.

Thats really not true at all. Larsson moves the puck very well. He's not a great offensive D or your run and gun stretch pass D, but he makes smart clean passes quite frequently. If anything, I'd say if you want to criticize anything in his game it might be his lack of elite mobility. He's mobile enough in combination with his great gap control and positioning, but if he were an elite skater he would be even more effective defending the rush.

He would of thrived in the dead puck era, but today’s NHL is all about speed and mobility. Larsson is just really flawed for today’s game. When he’s set and in position he protects the net well, but like I said that’s only part of the game. You don’t want to be spending too much time in your zone anyways.

Lol he has a decent outlet pass, he can provide a bit of offense. And he does most of his work along the boards not in front of the net. It's obvious you don't watch him.
