Purcell wouldn't be bad, but prefer Komarov bc of his versatility. Can play with piss and vinegar, kill penalties, keep other guys fresh. A useful skillet to have in June.

Hawks projected cap space is $878K per Capfriendly. I think they're done for now, unless they see a minor tweak they could do. Their bottom 6 could get an upgrade.

They could squeak more dollars out by burying Scuderi's contract or trading Bickell. I don't think they are done. Stan Bowman > Every other GM

My issue with adding Ladd was he just didn't seem to fit. Our top 6 is pretty set and we could always slide Mojo into the top 6 if Dre has issues. What we really needed was a shut down monster for our 3rd (or 4th) line center, it was just something we've been missing. Really any other big impact bottom 6 type player.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Caps looked at a guy like Boyd Gordon. Trotz said specialist, and man, is there more of a specialist than Boyd Gordon? The guy is great at faceoffs, and is a great penalty killer.

I don't think he said wouldn't get done until Monday, although there is the 23 player roster to keep in mind as far as doing something before then. I took it more along the lines that he realizes it's going to be a real grind to get done and that he's really going to have to work the phones.

I'm also more concerned with just getting to the ECF with this team. Not to say that's the goal but that's been hard enough for this core. To think Kuznetsov's emergence and solid depth is enough to vault them another two rounds is asking a lot, esp. with how some of their key guys have played lately.

I likely heard what I wanted to hear... a deal was all but done!

Yeah getting to the ECF is a realistic goal since its proven rather elusive with our Ovi led team. Kuz is a big part of our team but Trotz HAS to figure out how to get our top line to work at ES. It has to start with Kuz. Nick and his cerebral game just has not proven to be a difference maker in playoffs past and its inevitable Trotz gives in. I predict by game 4 Kuz will be at 1C, but he would be a fool to wait that long to try to find his best lines, and alternate lines.

Ask anyone and they want a cup here, but the west overall in recent years just seems in a higher class than the east. I have seen a few games where we pass like the top dogs, but its still rare. I think the West dominates in part to Chicago / LA pulling the strings on big names and never getting burned. Is it cap circumventing, great GMing, great C play, blind luck... its high time someone knocks them back to reality.

And it will start by pummeling their Dmen. We need a forward that does not wait 80 games to start being physical. An agitator to draw us PPs.

They already buried Scuderi and Bickell's contracts. Bowman's a great GM, I agree with you.
If the Hawks can trade Bickell, then we should be able to trade Laich.

Move Galiev, Laich, a 1st and a B prospect like Carrick. Get Komarov and Gordon.

I have no idea if Komarov is available but he would be a great fit on that fourth line.

Didn't Komarov play on a line with Ovi and Backstrom on Dynamo during the lockout?

Pretty shocked by that Ladd deal, figured he was destined for a reunion with his GM in FLA

Yes.

@tsnjamesduthie: Just spitballin': So now the Hawks will trade Bickell to the Leafs to free up room to get Hamhuis from Van? (All at 8am Monday please)

Glad that Ladd was traded to Chicago and not to the East. People who are worrying about a possible Chicago matchup are hilarious. We need at least to get past the 2nd round, then 3rd. We can very easily lose in the 1st round. And of course, Chicago needs to pass LA.

One option for trading Laich, win the Cup this year and then trade him in the offseason for the 1st lol

That would be the ultimate worst case scenario. Improves the Hawks and takes away a potential Laich destination

What about Hudler from Calgary? I haven't watched them much this year but he used to be a useful player.

Not a good fit. He won't and shouldn't bump Burakovsky or Chimera down. He had a career year last season with 76 pts, but I don't the Caps to pay for that. They already screwed us over with Glencross.
