The Caps have a bright future. Nobody in the NHL can match their firepower this season, and they're poised to be even better next season and in the future. We're set to be contenders for the next 10 years, even with Ovechkin slowing down. I think it's important to consider that before sacrificing the farm for a slightly better shot this season.

The NHL is too unpredictable to predict what happens next year, let alone in 10 years. Once we had a bright future with Ovi, Backy, Semin and Green. Well, it turned out not so bright after all. Plus nobody is saying to sell out the roster players and get rid of the farm completly (only if there is an impact player of whom we even don't think), but to give us better chance. Also Sharks were a good team with bright future year in and year out. I'm afraid with this risk-adverse strategy we will turn out to the Sharks if not already.
