I’m just surprised JBB traded Colton without an agreement with killorn. If we lose killorn and Colton this is gonna be a really bad offseason

Toews would just be a continuation of the school bus line that was washed up and not effective
You mean the guy that finished the season with one of the highest faceoff win % in the league? While putting up 31 points in 53 games on one of the worst teams in the league?

And even if he does suck... what does it cost us if we are talking a near league min contract?

I dont even necessarily want him. I just dont understand how it would be a terrible thing to bring in a vet on a cheap deal, given what we have in house.

Yeah I mean at the absolute worst Toews would be a massive upgrade over Bellemare as a defensive specialist center, at near league minimum there would be virtually no risk.

They keep saying that the free agent class is weak, but I'm like (in no specific order):

55 Bleugers, 55 Hamonics, 55 Noseks, 55 Stones, 55 Woods, 100 Schenns, 100 Gudas, 100 Archibalds, 100 Watsons, 100 Kivirantas, 55 Hinostrozas, 55 Accaris, 55 Kulikovs, 55 Suters, 55 Nietos, 155 Hathaways

I'm calling it right now. We're gonna take Gavin Brindley out of Michigan. I don't know why. That just feels the same as every pick we've been making for like 3 years now. And plus ya know.... undersized dude. Fort Myers FL. All that jazz. I'm gonna be shocked if it doesn't happen.

Honestly it is getting desperation time now if we think that 1 mil per year guys are going to have a positive impact. But what else can be done? We just let our best bottom 6 guy go for a second round pick and think it’s a good idea to consider reclamation guys. And we’re going to sign a guy that will be in the fourth line because the GM overpaid for him at the deadline. That on trade has handcuffed the roster as much as the cap has. If Killorn walks there is no sensible plan to replace him. Towes and OEL are just terrible options. Towes is a cancer and OEL is just a shell of what he once was and even at the top of his game at best was 2nd pair guy. I mean if you’re the best guy on a crappy team you’re still not very good. At some point the $$$$$ amount the core is eating up has to be addressed. With no credible sign of a decent cap increase for at least two more seasons all JBB is doing is watch the core age. With how fragile the defense is and only having a one line threat I can hear calls for a rebuild at the end of 24. If Casi and Heddy do not rebound it’s almost assured.

I know many don't want to hear this but dumping Sergachev and his salary via trade is the way out of this mess. He is most irresponsible defensively and half of his points come while he is on the powerplay. 27 even strength points ain't worth 8,5 million for the next 8 years.

Possibly, but think where is compared to Hedman at that age. Defenseman take a little more time to grow their defensive game . Hedman really evolved around 25-27 to one of the best modern day defenseman.

And right into another? Who the hell is going to play D, Hedman at 45 a night?

You would have 8.5 million in cap space to work with in free agency but its getting late. Honestly I don't think any team would want that contract. I am not saying Sergie isn't talented but his consistency is just frustrating. Silkie smooth with the puck but unaware in his own zone or coming back.

Serge makes some mistakes sometimes, but there is not a season to date where he hasn't progressed in his capabilities on the ice.
I was worried about the AAV as well last summer, but he's a great player that has shown he keeps getting better. His contract is fine, 8.5M for the next 8 years with the cap going up is a very good deal going forward.
Would be braindead to move him. You free up 8.5M and then what? Try to get a new LHD at a lower cost, that isn't close to being as good as Sergachev? Lol

Fair enough but I have heard that about so many other defensemen but have seen others jump into the league and get it right away. Dahlin comes to mind, Ekblad another and these two played on bad teams when they came into the league.

Let's not speak in hyperbole. He's frustrating to watch but the offense he generates makes up for it. Is he worth 8.5 right now? Maybe not, but it's a pretty great investment considering cap dynamics even if he never develops further, which he should.
