You're tilting on a post from page 110, in the midst of the argument about the definition of consensus. There have been four entire pages on posts from that point on.

Seems to me you want to get mad at me and are digging backwards to reply to previous comments on mine. Feel free, by my guest.
Not really. I just picked up where I had left off...

Well, after looking at that draft special......seems like they were high on his size most of all.
Still hope it turns well, but I have my doubts.
Size is also one of really attractive attribute. I mean, the average height in the NHL is like 6 ft 1. A 5 ft 9 a la Cooley will always to be the smaller guy in the locker room. First centerman in the NHL are mostly over 6 ft. I take Cooley as exemple, but this is the main things for every small guys. They need to product big time in their junior level.

Marty talking about players having no compete = NO BUENO 6 minutes in to video.

R.I.P Wright.

Bobrov speaks very well and makes a lot of good points.

I can see why Gorton would like him.
I can see it as well, but their track record with big wingers early in the 1st (at least at this early stage with Laffer, Kakko and Kravtsov) isn't super convincing.

I liked all of those guys in their draft years and I like Slaf, but my optimism isn't without a shred a caution.

Which team wouldn't have drafted Laf or Kakko at those spots ?

If you watch the Behind The Scenes video that came out it’ll settle this topic ;)

I like what Gorton says at around the 16 minute mark.."Don't fall in love with the character without the talent.'
I wish the former clown show regime had that kind of common sense.
Was there anything this insightful about the Kotkaniemi draft? God I want to see what was going through the bozo club’s minds.

It’s funny you mention that since I just listened to a former NFL scout podcast and he said something along those lines. Scout his play on the field before talking to him. Make sure you don’t fall in love with the personality first.

It kinda feel weird editing that Gorton says something like don't fall in love with the character without the offensive output, then cut to him( was it Gorton still?) pointing Martin Lapointe out... I mean Lapointe was a tremendous producer in junior ( not 10th overall for being a grinder) and he was a decent point producers for the dead puck era and his role...

He meant like having a team full of Lapointe.

I think this is the biggest difference in draft philosophy I'm seeing with this new team. Our most successful role player recently drafted is Lehkonen. The guy broke Alfredsson's SHL playoff goal-scoring record before becoming a middle-six forward and defensive specialist in the NHL. He was drafted with offensive skills in mind, like his shot, whereas a DLR was drafted because of his maturity and defensive poise, size and skating ability. All seemingly character and physical traits with a pretty clear expectation of being a great role player but nothing more because of his lack of skillful attributes.

most of the players drafted this year have that "difference maker / competitive" character they are looking for, but also have some key skillful attributes to them, be it offensive awareness, puck handling, Hockey IQ, shooting, playmaking, etc.

Man.. you just keep whining and whining about Galchenyuk and Kotkaniemi.. Kotka will be fine in Carolina, give him a couple of years to develop in a system that sees a need for him.

By your thought process with the Galch-KK-Slaf comparisons, we should be drafting a goalie in the top 5 every year since that pick worked out 17yrs ago!?!

I'm simply saying we haven't had a PPG player since Kovalev and haven't had two PPG seasons since the 90s.

The Habs cannot develop "projects" into productive offensive players. And it's foolish to bet that the new guys in will be able to do what the last three sets of GMs could not. I wouldn't trust them until I see it happen and I think the 1OA was too important to risk on a player with Slafkovsky's profile.

No need to dwell on it, we can move on.

It was a cool video to see . I’m not sure what to think of the comments by the scouts and Bobrov about wanting Slaf. Obviously we didn’t hear everything and would be cool to see interviews from some of the guys they didn’t take .I’m still skeptical but I am the furthest thing from a scout . Let’s hope Slaf can develop properly.

Unrelated to this thread but in that video , was interesting to hear Owen Becks interview . Guy is going to be a pro for sure .

i don‘t think he is a “Project”. But if you consider him a ”Project”, then so is everyone in the 2022 Draft. Maybe we should have declined our picks and waited for 2023?

Very true but if Wright had an ounce of charisma he goes top 3. The more I see Slaf and Cooley interviews the more I'm convinced in person interviews tipped the balance in their favors. Not trying to derail this into a Wright thread sorry

I’m cautiously optimistic.

I think that Slafkovsky’s attitude and will to compete is a bit better than those 3 in their draft years. Lafreniere and Kravtsov rely on their talent, and in Laffy’s case he was always an old birthday and a boy in a man’s body similar to Wright that allowed him to dominate his peers more convincingly.

Slaf is not out of place remotely against men, and dominates against his peers in the little bit of comparable exposure they’ve had.

I’ll admit he wasn’t my guy for #1, but I’ve come to appreciate and understand why people were so high on him. And it’s just better to be cautiously optimistic than being a pessimist all the time.
