If you plugged Owen Power into every single NHL team's bottom pair, hed do well no matter the team
Hes a 6'5" 215 dman with reach and smarts. Why is it considered a shock when Power does well in some raggedy tournament where most invitees didnt even give second thought, versus next year if he does well as the #1 overall pick playing NHL games?
NHL games have 1000x the talent and I, as well as most pundits, are saying hed Do well in his first season and can play D+1. So why exactly is it a shock that hes doing well now?
this likely doesnt affect his stock much. He could have not been invited and no one would have thought twice about it; whereas when hes taken in the draft, I bet the team that gets him's fans expect him to play in the NHL right away.
Most pundits have not been saying they expect him to play next year so I don’t know where you got that from. The general view has been that he could but it depends on the team and he could go back to Michigan for a year. I think he’s showing it and for some people confirming that he can play next year.
But as I said I don’t get how you can say it’s meaningless. His whole season has been meaningless than because it is certainly better than NCAA hockey. It will be very good if he does well in NHL games next year as well.
It’s also not just like he’s keeping up or just doing okay. He’s standing out and contributing to the offence. If hockey Canada didn’t think he was good enough to invite him it wouldn’t matter but if they did and he didn’t standout like he has that would hurt his stock?
It’s one tournament so it only means so much but it’s the best competition he’s played and he’s doing really well. He was already the favourite to go number 1 and I don’t think that would change even if he struggled but performing as well as he has performed has certainly solidified him as the top prospect in the draft IMO
Also no one is saying it’s a shock that he’s doing well. He’s just solidifying his standing as the top prospect.
