We haven't actually done anything recently that would have had an effect on the senior team yet. Last year's dominance in D1B was the culmination of literally everyone being healthy and everyone actually turning up and playing their best hockey.

If you look at the team over the last decade it's mostly the same names every year. This year there are more new players than usual but most of them are the dual nationals. Erhardt and Hammond (plus Brooks who debuted last year) are all non-GB trained players who just play in the EIHL and have a British family background. Perlini and Whistle are the sons of former players who only played here while their Canadian dads were still playing. Kirk is the spare forward and Sullivan is the spare D so they're not going to have much of an impact. The only real legit debutantes are Ferrara and Betteridge.

If anything GB is going to go backwards again when the core of the current team is gone. The import quota has only gone up in the EIHL and while this may have been a benefit to the players who were already in the league, it's going to hinder new players coming in and this won't be helped by the collapse of the old 2nd tier the EPL, which has left a massive gap between the EIHL and the barely-semi-pro NIHL.

What are our odds of avoiding relegation in your opinion? From what I've seen it would be a very good achievement.

Croatia
Ukraine - Croatia 2:4 (first win in history over Ukraine)
Italy - Kazakhstan 3:0 (after 2nd period)

In other news: Romania registered four new players today.

R Ferencz-Csibi, A. Vasile, R. Timaru (all u20 NT players) and CA Berdila.

Looking good against Estonia so far, still scoreless after 40' but Romanians were the more active team.

Edit: conceded the only goal a few seconds into the 60. minute, it can't get any worse. 0 points and relegation almost safe. This after being the better team today

Yeah, the Estonian goal was an absolute dagger. They still can win against Croatia, that's what they must have been aiming for before the tournament anyway so nothing is lost.

I wouldn't say nothing is lost.
Could all be lost before that game even begins, if Croatia wins a point against Estonia..

I like that Division so far, really entertaining games (even those with no goals ;)). Looking forward to the promotion battle tonight.

I'll probably watch Div 1A though, Hungarian atmosphere is amazing, hope they can beat the underwhelming Slovenes.

Wow 4-3 to us with nearly 2 mins left on another penalty...

Britain has really surprised this tournament so far, in a good way. And with the standings still so close, anything is possible for them.

Poland though, once again is finding a way to be their own worst enemies.

Truly a day of surprises in 1A. Poland looked really good in the first 2 games. I don't remember relegation battle ever being so open there.

Well that was easier than expected, 6-1. On to the next one. To be honest, after this win it looks like this championship is going to be smooth sailing.

If Slovenia holds on over Hungary (currently 2-1 midway through the second), it will make anything possible in Division IA. Going to be a real fun last few games. Really liking the parity this year, even closer than previous years; its good that any team can defeat each other, is good for the sport.

I have to admit I am hoping that the Team GB moves up to play with the big boys and play in the Canadian division next year--if they do get promoted I know a few guys that will make their plans for Slovakia as soon as they know where they are playing

I hope GB stays in 1A purely because they are the only team we can at least somewhat hope to challenge at that level. Poland should have never lost to them but they did.

Poland vs. Hungary seems like the key game for relegation battle at the moment.

Only 11 players on their NT were born in Kazakhstan. They're still a club team, basically.

for the world championships and the olympics they had something like 4 to 6 guys from North America who were given a passport a year before the games--

Unless the roster posted here in the UK is wrong--it looks most are of Eastern European hertiage and I do not recognise any names

this is the list of players I am seeing

Is that the correct list or did they sneak guys like

Edit

I see what they have done they have just switched up the guys and it looks like the list on line and the list of players actually playing may not be the same

1a is a pretty sick tourney, so many unexpected results. it's very nice to watch but pita to bet. the strangest thing: slovenia might still win it after 2 losses in first 2 rounds.

Hello from Budapest.

The best part is that nobody in the group has looked out of place. Italy beat Poland who beat Kazakhstan who beat Britain who beat Slovenia who beat Hungary who beat Italy! It’s about as balanced as you can get, even the 6-1 Kazakh-GB game wasn’t that wide a margin in balance of play.

The refereeing is a surprisingly poor standard, but the only thing between us playing Erik Karlsson or Connor McDavid is possibly one more win. Words I never thought I’d utter.

Well that's the point, Kazakhstan isn't in Eastern Europe and their names sound Russian because a lot of them are Russian. You don't always have to naturalize a North American, Russia produces plenty of hockey players too bad to play for them as well.
