Because before Watson, the QB position (his supposed speciality) was a black hole and he couldn't get anything out of them. Now a talented and confident QB arrives, who has been great at every level of play, and he deserves all the credit for him? Bull****. DeShaun Watson elevated the players around him.
O'Brien was hired in the same year they had the top pick in the draft. In round 2, they could have drafted Carr or Jimmy G but passed on both guys to grab a guard from UCLA.

Certainly he would have had input into whether either guy was worth their 2nd round pick.

Don think the Texans will can him? Doubt it.

That is to their fault, but the Texans also had Keenum and Savage in their camp in 2014. What if they had the 2017 version of Keenum this year?

What has Jay Gruden to make him worth giving something up to get?

Is he better than the many others options that don't cost you assets?

It could be argued that going to playoffs with Brian Hoyer and Brock Osweiler as your QB's is an achievement to show his ability to overcome crap at QB

I mean he won 9 games with Ryan Fitzpatrick , Brian Hoyer and Brock Osweiler as #1's in three consecutive seasons. That type of QB lineup would get most coaches fired

His real test will come now that he has a legitimate QB who has star potential.

Don't understand why people were even claiming gruden was on the hot seat
Don't think it was really about him getting canned so much as the team may be leaving him without a QB if they don't sign cousins long term as a third franchise tag is going to be too costly for them against the cap.

Which gruden may not be too happy about as it has taken him time to develop cousins.

Thankfully it looks like no more Caldwell, thank God!

Word is Patricia is the leading candidate, but I already saw the movie where a DC comes in with no head coaching experience and gives it a shot, in the Jim Schwartz saga, I already know how that movie ends.

Is Gruden Watch an actual thing this year or is it conjecture bull*** like the last 5 years?

Seems to be a bit more smoke around it this time around.

Safe to say Del Rio is done if that story is getting leaked.

The awkward thing is they share the same agent. Tho Gruden could always offer to keep him as DC but I doubt that would happen.

This time its legit, for many reasons.

1) His youngest kid will graduate high school in June, so now it wouldn't be too bad to move across the country
2) They can backload his salary so he will get most of the pay when they move to LV, its got a lower tax rate than California and Florida (where he currently lives).
3) An ownership stake is unheard of for a coach and would give him some nice equity, along with the massive salary he would command
4) Davis would give him full control of football ops, so he will have Belichik-esque power, Doesn't have to worry about some new GM trying to change things.
5) Davis was really fond of him when he previously coached the Raiders & Gruden never wanted to leave - just old man Al saw an offer he couldn't refuse.
6) Despite their struggles this year, Oakland has a roster ready to compete plus a franchise QB (whom Gruden apparently really likes) so he can contend right away.

I bet it fails because he's an average coach who hasn't coached in a decade. Plus its just a desperate move to placate fans since they are leaving to Vegas. Another mistake.
