Are the Blues looking to shed money/contracts?

Magnus Paajarvi. $1.2M cap. $1.4M salary.

He would be a good fit to replace Pouliot. 6-3. 208. Only played 55 games for the Blues. Hitchcock would dress the meat and potatoes guys over him. Excellent skater.

It probably would not cost the Rangers a lot in a trade. $1.2M cap hit fits in their tight cap.

The Blues have a ton of forwards with Schwartz and Sobotka to sign. Schwartz is not arb eligible and the Blues are a two year bridge contract just like the Rangers. He will get a nice bump. Sobotka is a key player for them and he is arb eligible.

The Blues would have 13 one way contracts and Tarasenko after re-signing those two key group IIs.

Ola, if Jimmy Hayes can be a good player with players like Johnny G. In college or guys like Zuccarello and Brass, how come a perrenial powerhouse in the Hawks didn't see that potential and put him alongside the better Kane and Sharp? We already tried out Beach in Connecticut and he was a failure, I don't think we will be going for Hayes anytime soon, even though you might be right with the potential.

There is more competiton to play with Sharpe and Kane than with Brass and Zucc.

For the record, I don't think Hayes would come in and set the world on fire with Brass and Zucc. I think Hayes need a good 2-3 years and to have a lot of things go his way to become like a Wheeler type of player.

But it would be a very good environment for him to play with Zucc and Brass, and wtih that in mind, I do think he would do alright in the NHL. Without Pouliots PP time, its not a big role we are talking about. We would just add a lot of value to our organization by being able to bring him on. Either he is good enough for us to bet on for the future, or he is undoubtedly someone who -- after playing fairly well in the NHL -- would be valued a lot by other orgs in this league in trade talks. Hence I wouldn't mind betting on him.

We need to add value to the organization to compete again.

this would be a good move for us.. i think once the dust settles of FA we will know where we stand.. I think we have about $1m in capspace to work with, and he would be a good player to fit capwise and player value

Haven't heard much at all about him, but is Booth still out there? Is he any good anymore? Would he likely sign a short, small deal just to try to save the career?

He's got problems for sure, but he's got wheels and decent size. It'd be a risk, but so would almost anything at this point.

Stralman wanted exactly what we gave Boyle, plus three more years. That's not outrageous considering that Boyle's a decade older than him.

Plus Strålman got a limited NTC clause--something that Sather would have never given him, even if they could have agreed on everything else (which was rather unlikely from the get-go).

AV got the right-handed defenseman he wanted--let's hope he has enough left in the tank to live up to the expectations the organization has for him.

I don't think that Haggerty should be dismissed so quickly. The Rangers agreed to a one-way deal--indicating they really wanted him. AV saw him practice for months, so, if nothing else, he knows quite a bit about him and his play. I wouldn't count him out of the equation come training camp.

I am not making it an excuse, but any kid needs to be developed and MPS was made the 3-4 string among <20 y/o players in a horrible environment in EDM. And who can blame EDM either, you of course try to nurture a 1st overall pick over a 11th overall pick. But...

He was a really good pick by them and a darn good prospect before going to NA. He would never have become a super star, he don't have that vision, but he definitely have it in him to become a very solid top 3 line winger.

I would really love for us to get him. He would be a perfect fit under AV. He is pretty smart with the puck and he is really good at challenging D's and taking the puck to the net. He got good size too.

I wonder what we would have to give up to get him though. McIlrath? STL gave up Perron and Perron is a good hockey player.

Paajarvi doesn't have Pouliot's track record of effective ES scoring, though.

That said, I would gladly take a flier on Paajarvi at a discounted price. Can't hurt.

I tried looking, but I don't think the AHL keeps track of faceoff stats. Their overall stat system is poor and only focuses on the main things like goals, assists, points, pim, toi, etc

Thanks, yeah i couldn't find it either. They should fix that.

He was about 51 % in the NHL this past season, but he only took about 50.

I'd be very interested in picking up Paajarvi to the play the "Pouliot" role.

Speaking of that role on the Zucc & Brass line, is there any chance that Kristo could be a fit there on the wing? Haven't seen anybody mention him as an option. I know much has been said about his lack of a two way game, but that wasn't necessarily Pouliot's game either. Would be quite a skilled line.

MPS is an intriguing player. He has the size and speed to play a solid 2/3 wing role in this league. I think he would be a good fit.

Jeremy Morin is the player I think would excel the most in that role though. He has the shot, size and speed and he plays with a bit of an edge to his game. From NY state. If I had the option, I'd take Morin.

At least Pouliot had a track record of being a decent contributor in a third line role. Paajarvi doesn't even have that. So if he came for pennies on the dollar, I might take a swing, but I wouldn't give up a whole lot to get him.

Pääjärvi is a defensive specialist, a slightly worse version of Loktionov on the wing. Could be a good fit with Nash as he needs a defensive presence on his line. If we double down on Nash's ability to generate his own offence (which is pretty proven at this point TBH), it could work.
