Avs beat the Pens 3-1. :handclap:

He who shall not be named is now only +3 on the season. Pretty surprising. :amazed:

Rangers lost in OT to the Red Wings. :handclap:

Ducks are beating the Habs 2-0 late in the 3rd period. Nice to see. :)

Crosby's year reminds me of Ovechkin in 10-11. Something is clearly off with him and it has to be injury related. He's still producing but just isn't the same force.

I don't like Rutherford as a GM one bit. He has a penchant for building soft teams. Why the heck would they trade a big young physical Dman like Despres for Lovejoy?

He has gotten rid of/not brought back multiple physical players like Orpik, Niskanen, Neal, Despres, Bortuzzo and replaced them with Hornquist and a bunch of no-hitters.

I know some dispute the validity and value of the "Hits" stat but Despres is 4th among NHL Dmen with 190 hits. Thats 5 behind Buff in 4 less games played.

He's 23 years old, 6'4 and 215lbs and can move the puck. He's a former 1st round pick and I didn't know they were down on him for whatever reason.

I don't think Depres is nearly as big a loss as many think, but Lovejoy is not the player you move him for.

Right. I think thats what we are getting at.

I mean I don't think anyone would be complaining if we traded Forsberg for Pavelski instead of Erat. We'd be fine with it.

But yeah...Lovejoy...not impressed. Anaheim fans didn't care for him much and I was never overly impressed when he was in Pitt. Not a bad player but not one you give up Despres for.

he got a late 1st rounder for eminger, our scouts got Carlson.

GMGM has ultimate say over the draft choices.

If I was going to hate on him for Pokoluk and Fehr/Getzlaf then I'm going to give him credit for Carlson.

Langway or Chibi can correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly certain that McPhee ran the disastrous drafts that saw us overinvest in the WHL and giants who couldn't skate and then Mahoney took over completely.

So you do get to blame him for bad drafts and not give him credit for good ones.

I never knew that if it was the case. I always thought McPhee had the last say. It would be unusual if a GM didn't!

I know Fenton runs the draft entirely for Poile in Nashville. It wouldn't surprise me if a handful of GMs around the league have handed that responsibility over to a specialist.

I never knew this. I always knew the the scouts and stuff did the leg work but I always imagined the GM giving the stamp of approval and having the utter final say.

I'd give McPhee credit for the first rounders in that he studied them most closely and did have the ultimate say (although that goes for Gustafsson and the like as well). After that it's mostly the scouts and Mahoney's work. McPhee oversees them putting together their list and what they generally tend to look for but beyond that it's on the rest of the staff to identify it and largely rank it.

Those 1999-2003 drafts were before they really invested in the amateur scouting staff IINM and devised a better process. It still doesn't explain the 2005 draft but, again, I put that one on McPhee mostly. Overall their improvement was mainly thanks to increased resources and an improved process formulated over the years.

The pre Ovechkin drafts in our entire history were brutal.

Outside of a couple gems (Bondra late for instance) we largely were treated to horrible drafting by Poile and GMGM year after year despite even having an additional 5 1sts for the Stevens thing.

We got some good players but most all in the first round and even then the odds were low.

When guys like John Slaney, Reggie Savage etc were your top end prospects you were in trouble.

On the contrary, I like Rutherford as a GM very much. :D

I still am sad about Volchkov. :(

I did see Slaney score the GWG in the 1991 WJC in Saskatoon, though.

I was really excited about him.

McQuaid with a big hit on Voracek, then Rinaldo goes after McQuaid who drops his gloves. Rinaldo then realises it's McQuaid and turtles with his gloves still on to draw the penalty.

I hate the whole dropping the gloves criteria for instigating. If the refs can make judgment calls in other areas of the game then the same should go for instigation. It would drive punks like Rinaldo out of the game.

LA Kings are wearing yellow helmets along with yellow jerseys and yellow socks. One purple stripe on the socks and one on the jersey along with the pants. They look like angry hornets.
