Imo, there is no need for DD or Cowick, and I would like to keep Da Costa for a one-year deal (doubt he'd object).

Then in Bingo we have:

Hoffman-Da Costa-Stone
Prince-Pageau-Robinson
Noeson-Grant-Puempel

Alfredsson -- if he wants to come back, he's coming back.
Latendresse -- give him another one-year deal under 2M.
Regin -- his time has passed, sorry Regin. Bye.
Gonchar -- one more year for Gonch.
Lundin -- probably not.
Benoit -- sign as a 7th D-man.
Jessiman -- would love to keep him in Bingo.
Lawson -- again, keep him in Bingo.

RFAs
Condra -- absolutely.
Hoffman -- absolutely.
Wiercioch -- absolutely.
Da Costa -- re-sign and perhaps use as trade bait.
Cowick -- keep him in Bingo.
Borowiecki -- absolutely.
Dziurzynski -- absolutely.
Caporusso -- keep him in Bingo.

Lawson probably won't re-sign he wants to have a shot at the NHL.
Regin is gone, shame what happened to him, really thought he was going to be a good player for us after that excellent 09-10 campaign.
Benoit will probably get re-signed , but I don't really want him to be...maybe back as a 7.
Latendresse I'm definitely on the fence, he just doesn't fit the model of this team (fast, puck possession), but if Alfie retires he could be an okay option.
Alfredsson Hope he's back, but not too optimistic.
Jessiman is gone
Lundin is gone
Gonchar would have to take a 1M+ paycut otherwise gone

There is no room for DD or Cowick. These guys should be the casualties of the "problem" alluded to in the other thread.

Alfredsson Yes (Possibly retires)
Latendresse Maybe (Depends on salary)
Regin Nope.
Gonchar Nope.
Lundin Nope.
Benoit Maybe (7th D if no better options / waive to Bingo see what happens)
Jessiman Depends on who they expect to be in Bingo.
Lawson See above.

RFAs
Condra Yes.
Hoffman Yes.
Wiercioch Yes.
Da Costa Yes. (Short Leash / Trade bait)
Cowick (Depends on Bingo roster)
Borowiecki Yes.
Dziurzynski Yes.
Caporusso Nope.

So, who should we keep (or try to?), and who should we let go/not qualify?

In all reality I don't know that much about the inner workings of Binghamton. My opinion on Jessiman, Caporusso, Cowick, and Lawson is based purely on the fact that I think they are at least useful minor league pieces.

Da Costa - YES, and TRADED
Cowick - YES

Interesting decision on Benoit - with Karlsson, Methot, Cowen, Wiercioch, Phillips, Gryba, Borowiecki...and possibly Gonchar coming back, it might be tough to fit Benoit in.

Not really a fan of Condra because he frustrates more than any player aside from maybe Greening, but he is a glue guy and can kill penalties well. No reason not to keep him.

No on Condra and DaCosta? That's interesting - what's your thinking there? I'd like to hear your perspective, especially on Condra.

Why would Gonchar have to take a paycut?

We are more likely to have issues making the cap floor than ceiling.

Condra will be a cheap, energy guy that is one of our best PK'ers and is a good skater. He's also key to the locker room. No idea why we wouldn't keep him. Who would replace him?

I like Condra but I've been having trouble figuring out where in the line-up he fits. He's a RW and you want him in the bottom six, right? You've got Neil there, and we've got Silf with Zibby, and the X with Spezza (and few want Condra with Spezza), and Alfie with Turris...

Basically, you end up asking one of the RWers to move to LW in most situations (given everyone in the line-up). More of an 'on paper' problem really, and only with Alfie back.

Personally I think it's pretty straight forward. We'll let the contract of one of DD, Caprusso, or Cowick expire. DD being the least likely as he's been given an NHL shot and management likes him.

We won't be re-signing Lundin, IMO, and we'll only be retaining one of Gonchar/Benoit or adding a single UFA to defence if both leave.

I believe only two of Alfredsson/Latendresse/Regin will be retained as well.

If we re-sign all our remaining RFAs after that we'll have:

14 NHL forwards
7 NHL defence
2 NHL goalies

17 minor forwards
8 minor defence
1 minor goalie

Giving us 47 contracts. Yikes. Not a lot of room. Luckily, only Jordan Fransoo needs a contract and I don't think he'll be getting one. One goalie (Lawson) likely will also be needed. Bringing us to 48 total. After that, we'll have plenty of more spots opening up down the line as well and we can always trade someone.

Da Costa will have the hardest time next season, IMO. Borowicki is in the same situation but he has a possible roster spot opening up in the NHL after Phillips' contract expires (one more season) and he's the AHL captain, so if he doesn't make it on the team next year during camp he's not going to be out of luck long term. An expiring ELC isn't the end of the world.

Da Costa meanwhile will have to show something in camp and move someone off the roster. Demoting him to the AHL for an entire additional season isn't a good option.

Condra has played LW at points.

Michalek - Spezza - Zibanejad
Silfverberg - Turris - Alfredsson
Latendresse - O'Brien - Condra
Greening - Smith - Neil

:dunno:

EDIT: Oh yeah... I forgot the little dude. I don't know then.

Alfredsson: Do whatever it takes to bring him back for another year.
Latendresse: The most interesting of the choices. Yes re-sign, but make sure has has a bottom 6 role
Regin: Nope. This one pains me, but in this case the stats don't lie
Gonchar: Nope. I was on board to re-sign when he was playing well before trade deadline, but we need to open up this spot for an up and commer more than we need to keep him and his huge payroll hit
Lundin: Nope. I think he played one all right game this year, with a lot of bad memories otherwise
Benoit: Absolutely. Not the absolute best out there, but when you think of bang for your buck the price will justify keeping him around and spending more in other positions
Jessiman: Nope.
Lawson: No opinion due to lack of information on him.

RFAs
Condra: Absolutely. Big PK guy, plays a solid bottom 6 role at reasonable price
Hoffman: Yes. Showed enough flash to justify giving him more time to develop
Wiercioch: Yes. I'm not convinced we can win it all with him playing more than a 7th D role, but he could be great trade bait down the road
Da Costa: I'm pretty sure he'll be re-signed. He had a few flashes of brilliance, but clearly needs another year or two in Bingo to develop his game.
Cowick: No opinion, not enough direct knowledge
Borowiecki: Absolutely. Played well enough while here, and is an absolute beast down in Bingo
Dziurzynski: Yes, but keep it to a one year deal. I like his game, but he is on the slow side and I'm not sure if his game is quite the same after the concussion (please correct me if I'm wrong on this last point)
Caporusso: No idea, not enough info on this guy.

Are there any prospects that we should be signing in addition? Maybe, Dzingel, Costello, and Aneloski for now.

So say we have to drop 8 players from the above list to make room. Easy: Cowick, Dziurzynski, Caporusso, Jessiman, Lundin, Regin, Latendresse, Benoit, Lawson, (Alfredsson), (Gonchar)
