I actually liked that Hall rushed in too.

Nico had obviously demonstrated, but wasn't really prepared to take it further.

It's a good thing it didn't turn into a scrum for any of our guys either way.

just wanted to say, as someone who was very pro-patrick leading up to the draft, I was wrong. super glad we have nico. not because he will be the better player necessarily (way too soon to tell) but he is showing some veteran levels of character, play away from the puck, leadership, etc. I haven’t been this excited since parise’s rookie year.

I was wrong too, thought we'd take NP.

Never felt so good being wrong about the team, Nico is superb both in talent and in character.

Glad I was wrong on score prediction vs. BUF too, dang what a blowout.

I will happily admit the same. Though I liked both players going into the draft, and I was a big Nico fan when I didn't think we had a shot at #1 overall, I was convinced that it was the most sensible move to go with the prospect that had been touted for the last couple of years. I have never been happier being wrong.

I want to see the type of player Nolan is when he fills out before i eat crow. Big Power Forwards like him take time to develop. Am Happy with Nico though, and thinks he fits in perfectly here.

Jury is still way out on who will be better between them but Nico fits in here much more in my opinion. So happy we have him.

I don't intend to take anything away from Patrick by praising Hischier, I just know now that we made the right choice now. Nico will fit precisely the type of play style they're looking to implement here. He's one of those players where the puck just finds him and his skating and stickhandling are really a joy to watch. Plus his personality and attitude are just infectious so it's impossible to not like the guy.

One more thing, I'd be lying if I said the lingering worries about Patrick's health wouldn't be at the back of my mind if he was on the team. I figure he will fully recover for a long NHL career but at the time of the draft, I don't think any of us knew he had JUST completed another hernia-related surgery a week prior. I thought he was through all that and in a long, gradual recovery phase.

Hextall looked like someone just set his house on fire when they interviewed him following the pick. At any rate, I think Patrick is a pretty complete player with a great shot but Nico looks like the player we need most.

I'm dreading all the, "Nico vs. Nolan" drama that's sure to take place prior to the first Devils / Flyers game. Ugh.....

I think Nico is also less of a finished product compared to Patrick. My guess is that Nico has a bit more untapped potential in his game since he has more physical and cultural development to go through. He’s got the work ethic to bring it to fruition. No knock on Patrick who is an excellent player and will be a cornerstone for the Flyers if he stays healthy.

Patrick is more in the mold of Monahan/Toews. Hischier is far more dynamic like Datsyuk/Elias. Devils already have similar young centers style-wise in Zacha and McLeod so I like the idea of Hischier adding a different dynamic to the group. I think it ends up working best for both teams since the Flyers already have a more skilled center in Giroux on the team.

I will say Hischier's attitude is a great attribute to have. Carries himself really well and puts the team first. I think it almost serves as a wake-up call to some of the older guys having an 18 year old kid coming in with that attitude.

This is waaaay to premature and probably a pipe-dream, but could you imagine if a devil wins the Calder and his name is not Nico Hischier?
