Everyone is clamoring to get rid if Brown, I think Gaborik is worse.

I'll judge Gaborik when comes playoff time, if he can be at least half as good as he was with us 2 years ago, I'll be satisfied.

Gaborik is a pimp.

Tattaglia was a pimp. He never could have out fought Santino.

I always have fun looking at highlights of new acquisitions, just to get a glimpse of what the player is capable of. Also looking at his numbers, Versteeg would be 3rd on the Kings in scoring among wingers behind Toffoli and Lucic.

Little known fact about Versteeg, he can scrap.

This one is funny given the opponent:

I know some people have speculated that they're not sure if Versteeg would be a Sutter type player, but I'm sure he'll appreciate having a scrappy Albertan on the roster.

I never thought he was as bad as Hawks fans kept crowing about, even when he was on their team. Guy seems legitimately underrated, hopefully he works out in our system.

I guess that depends on how unrealistic people's expectations are of him. Kind of like with what happened when the Kings obtained Vinny Lecavalier. He wasn't brought in to be a #1 center on this roster, just provide additional scoring depth and a center who can create chances from his wingers, which he has provided.

the Kings' system seems to either make guys look a lot better (like Vinny) or stick out like a sore thumb (like Ehrhoff did), so i'm hoping Versteeg fits the former. Obviously we shouldn't expect him to be a consistent top-line winger, but if we're getting what was advertised - an experienced 40-50 pt guy that can play all over the lineup - then there shouldn't be many issues, especially if he can bring that offense to the bottom six.

Versteeg fought Vlasic?

Oh boy, Sharks fans will have a new target of ire now that Stoll is gone, no one touches Vlasic!

I read somewhere that Versteeg can play all forward positions like Lewis. If that is true, I wouldn't mind him centering the fourth line. He is a lot better option than Shore or AA.

I don't understand why this board is so critical of Gaborik. Before his injury, he was on pace to get his usual 20 goals. Its not like Brown where he is getting paid $6 million to produce less then 10 goals a season. Plus, Gaborik is one of the few true snipers on our team.

I don't get it either.

People gotta rein in expectations of what he used to be and realize that at the end of the day, he's still a 20-25 goal guy on a team with precious few 20 goal scorers. He's doing exactly what he's being paid to do - score goals. Literally no one on the Kings racks up a ton of points except for Kopitar and arguably Carter, so I'm not sure why anyone would expect Gaborik to suddenly start doing that again at the age of 33.

I don't like this trade at all. I have never been a fan of Versteeg's game. I thought the Blackhawks were better with him out of the lineup in the playoffs last year. Disappointed Lombardi gave up Zykov for this guy.

I preferred to chase after Mikkel Boedker. Thought he could fit well here and like his game a lot. Also had interest in Loui Eriksson, who seemed a very good fit here to me, but his price seemed too high.

Versteeg will spend most of his time up in the press box during the postseason.

If you are disappointed in Versteeg, you would have been really boiling at Boedkker.

Not a good 5v5 player on all sides of the puck and a PP specialist pretty much.

The Kings need Versteeg to have one big goal like Stoll or Penner in 2012. They need him to have a big series if someone else isn't scoring, like King against the Coyotes. They're going where Kopitar, Doughty, Quick, Carter, and Toffoli take them. Versteeg just needs to have one moment.

I wouldn't generalize it as everyone but there are a bunch of people that get all lathered up.

Haven't seen Zykov in person play but it's been noted on here and via a few other avenues that his progression is not going as expected. Now, is that due to injury or something else, time will tell.

Have no problem with this deal. Hope to see another piece added on defense today. Just hope it's not a guy like Kris Russell.

He is still young. I've seen him play quite a bit. He is capable at times of brilliant moves and a very quick release on his shot, and a good shot, and sniping. At times, Kempe might be overrated if you want to compare him to this guy. But, both are good. I disagree with those that try to downplay we didn't give up anything really. We did. IMO

I don't get the love for Boedger, he would have got his A$$ benched by Sutter real quick. From everything I've read, Kings weren't even interested and that's probably the reason for it.

And yes, we'd all love Loui but we wouldn't like the price for a rental we definitely weren't going to sign.
