While I agree with you that expectations were too high, and certainly all of our players are too soft...
I think we've yet to see any lines gel, I think our top line has been terrible, and most importantly our God awful defense got only marginally better, because we added more of what we had... Another high risk high reward guy that adds to the chaos.

Our goaltending is still mediocre at best.

Put this with a coach who doesn't know how to build momentum by establishing lines and giving them time to develop chemistry.... And this is what you get.

If severson and the d And the tenders can settle, we can turn it around.

maybe shero has to get rid of some guys

goes to my thought that as bad as Hynes is .. this team isn't built to succeed in the NHL... it has small men all up and down the lineup.... its still a rebuild.... I would trade hall now.
Even if we get hot, the offense gels, and we see a bunch of pretty goals. I'd have serious questions about this team in the playoffs.

Now I might forget those questions in the midst of the hot streak, but man, this current lineup in a playoff series would get demolished.

I think I'm coming around to the idea of trading Hall now.
First off I'm pretty confident he isn't signing with us at this juncture anyway. This team and this staff is a f***ing tire fire.
Secondly, I'm not convinced that keeping him wouldn't be a mistake anyway. What kind of supposedly elite players shits the bed for five consecutive games to start the season?
Thirdly, this team is completely unbalanced; Hall is probably one of the few pieces that might make sense to move to get an upgrade elsewhere in the lineup. (Though I'm not convinced we could fetch such a piece from another team at this point).

Don't forget Ty Smith. We thought we were guaranteed to be adding a top 4 defenseman into the lineup as well.
Ya, and I wanted him around to start the season, but watching this team now, there is no way he'd help. Even if he was playing fairly well. A 5'11" 19 year old rookie d-man is about the last thing this team needs.

Hall's gotta pick up his own play first before we trade him if we do, he's obviously still got some rust.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he is still getting up to speed. And he hasn't been bad, he's been good, just not the force of nature he was in 17-18.

One thing that is clear is that Zacha actually needs to be playing more, a lot more. Guy has been flat out dominant at 5on5, regardless of who he plays with. You don't put up these kind of underlying stats and not start generating goals with your ice time, and he needs to be played more than 10 minutes per game at 5on5 to maximize that.

He's been good. I'd keep him with Hughes. I'd keep Simmonds in there with them. But they all need to figure out how to put some points on the board.

Zacha Hughes Simmonds had a strong night, Hall with strong #'s, then a bunch of guys with below 50%, but respectable #'s. Then you have Rooney, Gusev Bratt. With Rooney having the best #s of the bunch.

And this goes for the season as well. Gusev and Bratt's #'s are at the level where they should not be in the lineup.

But Rooney should? :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

He isn’t getting enough minutes for this to be true.
The fact that his play has been so bad that Hynes' needs to limit his minutes to this extent is very much a part of the issue.

He has had moments on the PP. Too cute at times, and not finishing at others. But his skill is on full display there.

But 5v5, how could you play this guy more when he's consistently hemmed in his own end?

Now oddly, he had zero offensive zone starts compared to 5 defensive zone starts. Not sure what Hynes is thinking here.

Hall’s zero goals is a bigger issue then Gusev.
Hall, like a lot of guys, does need to figure out how to put some points on the board.

I haven't liked his effort at times, but overall I think he has played well.

And I think he is still working his way back into shape.

I feel like if we can give Hall an excuse with rust we can give Gusev a break for his 5th NHL game ever.

Him too, but that is not a very interesting argument, as everyone here love to pile on Rooney.

Now I'm not sure Boqvist in the lineup over Rooney helps much either. But the thought coming into this year was that Rooney would be the 13th fwd.

We pile on Rooney 'cause he's a pile of s--t.

It's not like we're scapegoating a talented player.

This is a PLUG who got more minutes than two of our most talented players!!!!!! C'MON, MAN!!:mad::mad:
