I feel like if we can give Hall an excuse with rust we can give Gusev a break for his 5th NHL game ever.
I see a big difference between a guy proven in this league who is coming back from a major knee injury and a veteran player switching leagues.

Now maybe Gusev eventually realizes that this is a checking league, maybe he realizes that his team is not by far the most talented team in the league, and that he will have to work to get the puck, but his unwillingness so far to do that is alarming.

I would like ONE GAME where I see Bratt with at least 13 minutes(or better) of ice time.

I feel like I'm watching his Rookie season all over again where he was jerked around by Hynes by using him sparingly at many points of the season (with no rhyme or reason).

That’s him struggling to keep up, not actually doing anything of use. He’s a garbage NHL player.

Ok, he was still the Better player tonight. Not sure what game the Bratt heads were watching but I barely noticed him. Pick your Brattles, this wasn’t the game for it.

This is also a symptom of having hynes as coach. He gets the most out of plugs.

We pile on Rooney 'cause he's a pile of s--t.

It's not like we're scapegoating a talented player.

This is a PLUG who got more minutes than two of our most talented players!!!!!! C'MON, MAN!!:mad::mad:
I'd like to see Hynes put Bratt some where else in the lineup, get him away from Gusev. But where?

But I think together Bratt and Gusev deserve the limited minutes they get.

Rooney? I think this "pile of s--t" business is another of this boards runaway naratives where they beat on a guy who is a bit player in the production.

But I'm actually OK with Rooney as a 4th liner. Now are his possession #'s terrible? Yes, but he has also been on for zero offensive zone faceoffs this season, and 18 defensive zone faceoffs. Yet has not been on for a 5v5 goal against.

Bratt has 2 assists in 5 games in this abortion-of-a-season thus far.

Rooney, in contrast, has NOTHING.

Where is this "better player" bullsh-t?

Stop talking nonsense.

^ of course he did. :whatever: (that's sarcasm, btw)

Meanwhile, Bratt had 7:46 of ice time.

But by all means....please continue to purposely annoy me. Thanks (I know what you're doing there)

In not trying to annoy you but Rooney has some nice hustle plays in the neutral zone and he’s not going to be that Bratt skilled player.

If anything gusev is too much like Bratt and I’m not sure either will succeed in a hynes system.

He was played too much in his rookie season. And that's why he faded late.

See my above post. No one had any assist tonight so not sure how that means Bratt had a better game.

rooney wasn’t the problem tonight just as much as Bratt wasnt.

I thought Hughes had another good game. I also thought the Subban/Severson pairing looked very effective. Hall was a non-factor for the first half, but he did turn on the jets later and put up a bunch of shot attempts. Wood also fired away. At this point, I am happy to see anyone just get the puck to the net. Way too many fine passing plays going on thus far. I am not sure if this is a system thing, or a product of having a roster loaded with playmakers and light on pure shooting talent.

Not as bad as the Buffalo and Philly games for sure, but a big step back after an encouraging home game vs the Oilers.

Bratt has succeeded in a Hynes system.

I think the issue this year is trying to keep skill with skill, despite the awful results.

Well if that's what Hynes is attempting to do here, he's overcompensating and not trusting Bratt improving his cardio last offseason.

Hell...it would be one thing if the Bruins game was a close one but we were down 2-0 in the 2nd....and 3-0 in the third. At that point, why wouldn't you play your more talented players MORE instead of benching them?

This makes no sense to me but then again....Hynes NEVER made any sense.

I used to laugh at the thought of Guy Boucher being the Devils Head Coach and all the Memes that we could have fun with....

....now I'm not laughing but really finding that I really WANT Guy Boucher to replace Hynes 'cause as much as some here say "Oh! I'm going to hate Guy more 'cause he uses Plugs more", I have to say "The man coached a team to a Stanley Cup. I am willing to trust him to know how to f--king coach a Talented team like ours".

Okay then..

Let's analyze :

When did Bratt excel?

Answer : When he was on a line with Hall and Nico. He had his best year, his rookie season until he faded in the 2nd half.

Now he had some moderate success playing with Zacha on a line, too.

Other than that, I cannot remember any other situation where he had sustainable success on a line.

Bratt and Gusev aren't defensive-wizards, naturally but Rooney centering them really turns that line into a liability.

if it was 2012, rooney would be perfect for our bottom 6. unfortunately for us, we've reverted to a grinding game, even though our team makeup isn't made for that

i have no idea what our attacking/forechecking strategy is and i don't think our players do either

They were a liability prior to Rooney. Their issues are not Rooney. Heck, he was on the ice for one of their goals this year.

Now could we put Bratt on the top line? Then go Zacha Hughes Palms, Gusev Rooney Simmonds on the 4th? Maybe.

But consider Bratt has 1 5v5 s0g. 2 shots total. Not good. He's not getting a promotion playing like this.

You're right. It's not a good start for him.

But I'm far from worried about him and his career as a Devil.

All he needs is to be put in the proper position to succeed.

It's a tired sports-related cliche but it's true.

Hynes has done the opposite of that.

I, for one, would never have broken up the Hall - Nico - Bratt line in the first place which is what Hynes did LAST SEASON (remember?) as well.

He is still spooked about Bratt's 2nd-half fade EVEN NOW.

It pisses me off that he's playing him so little after 2 seasons....now in the 3rd.

If you wanted to notice him you should have been watching the bench. And it's a sign of a bad coach to really really like lousy players who "hustle". Remember Pete used to just love Pete Jr.

Hynes didn't play Rooney many minutes, so it's not fair to say he really likes him.

I mean I agree but I don’t think Rooney was lousy tonight. He played a role that other skilled players wouldn’t want to play and frankly this team doesn’t have many of those players right now. A team like the bruins you are going to need a player or two that plays like Rooney.

The composition of the team is a different discussion but I don’t think this is the game to say “why are you playing Rooney over xyz”

still a gusev-Rooney-Bratt line is inexcusable. The fact this team has no clear cut 4th line is the issue not the individual (Rooney).
