Scheif can be the captain.
Trade Wheeler to Buffalo.
Reinhart, Risto and next year's 1st.

I feel like any trading of Wheeler at this point may lead to a mutiny among some of the guys. Trading a captain is usually a bad idea.

I think we should trade Wheeler for picks/prospects (I'm sure he'd waive his NMC for like 5 or so destinations). Just get whatever you can, since it's a cap dump a la PK subban trade.

Then use the money/cap space to go after Joe Pavelski (obviously, determine his interest level ahead of time). So you're just trading one captain for another, and getting some assets back in the Wheeler move. Pavelski teammates seem to love him. Would be good for the room. IDK.

Guys, as much as you may want it to happen, Wheeler is not going anywhere. He has poured out his heart and soul for this team and the city. Moving a guy out that has shown the commitment to this organization and city looks very bad to others around the league. I understand his contract isn’t great but it’s not nearly the albatross some act like it is. The guy will likely still produce at a top 6 level for most of that contract. Just because someone hits 30 doesn’t make them suddenly bad. Yes there is usually a steady decline of some sort but it’s not always like falling off a cliff. The overreactions are hilarious, naive, and frankly sometimes just plain ignorant.

How much D does the current captain play?

Are you under the false assumption that Wheeler has ever actually been capable of defense? There’s a significant difference when your top line winger is bad defensively and when your top line center isn’t capable of defense.

If I'm GM, I remind the coach of the specific types of players that I drafted and that he had better figure out the best systems to make the most of them instead of trying to turn them all into grinders. Then remind him that I can't just trade away the entire roster to suit his preferences.

Wheeler will learn how to be a better leader then he already is. He and his family are very invested in Winnipeg. Something most of us fans should give him alot more credit for.

Doesn't make sense to me all this trade talk when alot of players want out on a regular basis

Somewhere nice
Jets will be better team next year.

Full year of Buff and Morrissey.

Instead of full year of Trouba and Myers?

Now a full year with a new coach :)

This is a team I put together that keeps last year's team together. If you think about the starting lineup for the playoffs, this is the exact same forward group, but with Roslovic in Hayes spot, and Appleton is Roslovic's. I like that 3rd line because you hope the offseason rumours put some fire in Ehlers, and Roslovic and Perreault have some chemistry. Copp with Little-Laine, is like adding Hyman to a line, you get the two way game, which helps the offense from offensive players. A lot of moveable parts helps to adapt to opponents. If Veselainen is developed into a top 6 forward, you can put Copp back with Lowry and have that premier shut down line. I signed Laine to a bridge because for the Jets it makes sense, instead of blowing up the team now, in two years Buff, Lowry, Perreault come off the books, that's a lot of money to spend. By not making him the highest paid Jet I think that takes a lot of pressure off him. Morrissey gets his raise next year with Kulikov leaving, and Samberg replacing him. No one else gets a significant raise. I signed Beaulieu and Lindholm to 2 year deals because that is a sweetener for taking a paycut. Guaranteed money. Beaulieu to me is important because of the lack of depth at LHD. Leaves a competition between Niku/Stanley for one spot, and two forward spots up for grabs in TC, with Appleton having an edge on one. I know Morrissey-Pionk does not look that good on paper, but hoping Pionk surprises a few people. Team is definitely fast. Contenders, maybe not, but not a team that will be at the bottom of the standings, with health. And a team still developing young talent.
