Because Bastian is playing with Tierney.

Bastian with McLeod was excellent.

But he doesn't do enough with the puck to carry a line. He can be a very good glue guy as McLeod's sidekick.

His problem not might be that McLeod might be too good for the 4th line, AND Holtz looks like he is Mikey's new right handed wing man.

I like Palat McLeod Holtz.

Haula McLeod Holtz was very good in their short run as well.

I think Mikey has now successfully completed his upgrade to 3C for real now. The way he is playing, almost no way you can put him on 4C anymore.

Guy legit turned like 3 pages already this season.

Tierney isn't helping I agree, but Bastian hasn't been the same Bastian since his massive shoulder injury. He doesn't play that big to his size. Seems more tentative than pre injury days.

Think you hit the nail on the head here. He's always been a decent complimentary guy on the 4th line or occasionally on the 3rd. He's good at meshing with decent players but can't do anything by himself.

Additionally, possession black hole Tierney is definitely not helping. Guy has some of the worst on-ice impacts in the league

And we kvetch about Lindy with Holtz, he's never even been THAT bad with him compared to a Torts doghouse player lol.

But now we know Holtzy is getting 1on1 time with Lindy. They talking about how he is trying to mentor and tweaking his details of his game.

Have to say Ruff is pulling the right strings here.

With Holtz working out with Bratt his skating is massively more explosive. Looks nothing like his skating last 2 years before. And now Lindy took holtz under his wing it seems.... Holtz looking really f***ing good this season.

What can you say about Luke Hughes? This was a big time game, another coming out party for him.

That quick ceremonious bow at the end, with his hand at his waist, coming back up ice after scoring that OT winner. We are going to remembering that I think for as long as he plays. What a game. Coming back from that injurious hit and to win the game. The guy is a natural. And that was not an easy finish. Hart stood on his head. We could have had 4 more goals against an average goal tender.

That said, too bad to let the game get away from us with 5 minutes left in regulation. You have to close that one out. But what a relief we won it and what a way to win it.

Will always remember. Even that caps OT last season. Dude (like his brother here) has a huge knack from dramatic swagger that cannot be denied.

If we ever get fully healthy, we are going to have some hard decisions to make at forward. We have like 10 or 11 guys that can credibly play in the top 9: Hughes, Toffoli, Bratt, Hischier, Mercer, Palat, Holtz, Haula, Meier, and now arguably McLeod.
This is a great problem to have. I think you have either Haula or McLeod on the fourth line.

Good problems but seriously. I don't think anyone including coaching staff could foresee this McLeod this season. Right now... He is playing like a 2.5C. I'd say better than a 3C.

To me, it's probably one of the most inspiring things to see on this roster outside of the usual expected inspirations.

Him and Lazar have played way above expectations to date.

Speaking of Bratt....He's gone ice cold lately.

He also was apparently demoted to the "2nd team" PP (which is basically a nothing team to expire the rest of the PP time).

He needs to get it going somehow.

Good thing the entire rest of the team has been doing work.

Toffoli - Jack - Bratt
Meier - Nico - Mercer (if Meier and Mercer get their shit together)
Henrique (pls) - McLeod - Holtz
Palat - Haula - Lazar

Work your magic, glen. I think he got a bit demoralized after the bad team stretch. Probably took too much pressure on himself to fill in for Jack and Nico.... And didn't do so well and he probably mad about it.

Just noticed the standings that with a win tomorrow night we can leapfrog into the 3d Metro playoff spot (and the wild card too) over Philly, the Isles and Washington before heading out onto the road. All that competition is idle tomorrow night. Do it. Things are looking far better than they were after the Columbus game.

We take care of our own business, we will make the playoffs.
