Damon had a lot of good things to say about this team (and fans) in his post-game. JUST FYI.

starting about a 1 min in, for all your Sevs fans (most of you still are secretly!)

Also i like the phrase he used at the end, "High Demanding Fans here" which I agree concurrently - bar is high!

Alright that's it, I'm getting Severson off the CBJ plane and giving him Brendan Smith's gear

I’m ok with the drop pass in certain situations, because it can give the trailing puck carrier an easier zone entry and lead to rush chances.

But if you do it every time, it becomes predictable and that makes it lose value. Need to keep the defense uncertain by changing it up.

Also, I initially thought that was Bratt with the crazy move, because Bill had just mentioned him on the call. Was surprised afterward to see it was Luke.
Bratt already fulfilled his own "crazy move" quota earlier.

It was Luke's turn. :D

Found this as well...

(not mine but nice in arena feel)

Kinda ironic on this day welcoming Damon Severson back on his whole appreciation video and then the game ends with #28 getting the OT winner. Serious Sevs vibes on that Timo goal. And they showed his OT goal vs. NYR which i felt had catapulted the season last year with that win.

I got Brendan Gaunce confused with some other player, who is almost definitely out of hockey or at least North American hockey. Some guy that played for our AHL team that DD loved. I think he was a guy that was on loan to our AHL team from some other organization. And he either played for Columbus at some point or maybe they were loaning him to us?

I think his name was Corey something.

Corey Tropp is the name I'm looking for.

Currently 34 years old and in his second year of not playing pro hockey. Last played in North America in 19-20.

We had a few AHL guys that seemed to be all the rage around here, but never got a call up. Some of them didn't even have two way contracts here. Jacob MacDonald was definitely one of them. Then there was Matt Lorito (lol) and Joe Whitney, who I admit I was kind of high on. I think he did play a few games in the NHL here, but his call ups weren't long. And he was also the size of an average horse jockey.

Now that I think about it, I think whatever organization Tropp belonged to traded him midseason, so we lost him from our AHL team lol.

They have done it a bit this year tbf, I can remember a few scoring chances coming from Luke. He's also done it 5v5 a bit this year too.

Probably 1 out of every 20 to 25 entries on the PP. I could be wrong on that but it's what I feel like is happening most of the time. We saw what can happen tonight. Everyone was waiting for Luke to pass it back to Jack when we had the empty net, because that's what we do almost every time, but Luke just sped up and caught them all flat footed.

I am happy for the win, but this team goes full galaxy brain when things frustrate them.

Miss a good chance, spend the next five in their own zone. They get pushed around a little, Jack spends a period in the box. Team are defending the cross-ice passes better, the Devils are forcing passes or taking bad shots. The PP was rough. I think the Jack injury has messed with his shot, he shot the puck but his accuracy/power are down.

Missed the game but just watched the highlights. Doesn’t seem like a game the inspires confidence.

It was not. We seem to be a team on par with the Detroits of the world. The team looked pretty bad sans the first 10 minutes of the first period and they squeaked out a win based purely on the skill of Luke and Nemec.

The CBJ GDT is AI generated and absolutely amazing. I highly suggest giving it a read. It seemed to perfectly describe the matchup between these teams

From their gdt:

"AI Game Preview:

Ah, the Columbus Blue Jackets versus the New Jersey Devils – a showdown that's sure to be... well, let's just say it's happening.

On one side, you've got the Blue Jackets, a team whose name suggests they might be more comfortable at a Revolutionary War reenactment than on a hockey rink. They've been skating circles... mainly around the bottom half of the standings. But hey, they're consistent!

Then there's the New Jersey Devils, a team named after a mythical creature that's allegedly been sighted more times than their defense this season. They’ve got some bright spots, though. For instance, every game ends eventually.

In terms of strategy, it's a clash of titans... if by titans, we mean teams that sometimes remember how to play hockey. The Blue Jackets might try their signature move – the "Oops, Did We Just Let Another Goal In?" While the Devils, on the other hand, will probably stick to their tried-and-true "Hey, At Least We're Not The Blue Jackets" approach.

But seriously, it's going to be an exciting matchup between two teams that... exist. So grab your popcorn, lower your expectations, and enjoy the game! (If Bally's hasn't lost the feed)"

Another barely won game against lower ranked opponent. It's not pretty, but it is a win streak. Hopefully they can keep it up and not lose the next 3 like they have the habit of doing. Vitek has been very solid recently, and ofcourse (most of) the rest of the team starts to struggle instead. Something about this team that the whole team is never on, it's always just 1-2 lines, and if the defence is good the goaltending sucks and vice versa.

For what it's worth I do like the (starting) line combinations on paper and wish Ruff would stick with them for few games&practices and not shuffle them again just because they didn't click immediately. If I could change something I would once again try Holtz with Hughes and Bratt, and healthy scratch Siegenthaler to make a statement, or at least switch him and Bahl.

Hughes Marino/Nemec
Bahl Nemec/Marino
Siegs Miller

On a brighter note, the team is actually tied 2nd in the division for wins and tied 4th in the whole conference. It just that when they lose, they lose on regulation and usually pretty clearly. While the other teams get more games into OT/SO (even if they lose).

There's too great of a focus on the opponent, in my opinion. Winnipeg is one of the better teams in the league so far this season and they lost to one of the worst last night in OT. Hockey is a wacky sport that any team can truly win on any given night.

While we have played down to opponents throughout the season so far, I didn't feel last night was one of them. We had a few glorious opportunities to take the lead that Merzlikins bailed his team out on. Yes, we're guilty of significant lapses, both by the players and coaching, and unfortunately it seems to end up burning us more often than not. But you have to give credit where it's due that they didn't fold after the Siegs blunder.

I think too often we downplay what the team does. All you can do is play the team in front of you each night. I thought we were the better team, no question. I don't think it's reasonable to expect a curb stomping on any night.

Sidenote, I still love looking back at the 2020 draft and Dawson's placement in terms of stats.

3rd in goals with 53, only 4 behind Lafreniere (in 52 less games) and Stutzle, who is way ahead with 80.

Tied for 3rd in assists with Jarvis.

3rd in points, only behind Raymond and Stutzle.

I know some were frustrated with his start, but we have to remember he just turned 22 not too long ago. He's got 7 points over his last 7 games and seems to be meshing well with Timo and McLeod. I think he'll continue to be a major factor for us as the games get more important. Love how he cranked that shot when he had the chance.

In watching the highlights again, I forgot how many chances the Devils had - that said, they were about to waste a decent game by Vanecek. Too sloppy on the defensive end and the beginning of the third period was miserable but there was a lot of good there offensively.

I'm not petty by nature, but this is a level of petty I can 100000% get behind. One of the only blessings that Twitter/X can still offer. Continue sharing this until it's no longer possible.

It gets better every time. Such a preposterous take to make then, and looks worse and worse each time. There's clearly a reason they deleted this episode from their podcast list.

This is in no way intended to diminish Luke's goal which was exhilarating and wrested the game back from an impending loss.

But Nieds did it while casually making chumps out of Coffey and Lidstrom for gawds sake.

Ya, Provorov and Gudbranson are certainly not those guys.

Still impressive to walk an entire NHL team and score.
