A bit of an overpay on two years but if he scores 50 he will get signed for something insane like 11M

After last season wrapped up, this is pretty much the type of contract that was expected.

Made no sense for Winnipeg to commit long-term when you don't know what you have in the player.

Quite a turnaround from the pre-season interview Laine had last year. I don't remember who it was (maybe Bob) who basically said "10M seems like a sure thing".

Cool beans, next one is Connor. Let’s roll!

Love the bridge deal solution, both sides are uncomfortable with last year’s performance so this is a big motivational bridge deal for Laine to prove it. That will require better/more logical usage by the coach but also better effort by Laine.

Sweet!

A dumb-ass move from Laine

He should've taken a 5-year, 8,4M$ offer sheet in July, and gotten this over with. The Jets would've matched it immediatelly

This 2 year term sucks balls. This basically means that they still won't let him maximize his game, keeping him playing in a bad role, not playing him 1:50 of every powerplay like Ovechkin.

Winnipeg will just try to minize his next deal. No way in hell they'll let him play all the powerplays, like he should.

If Laine puts up 45-50 in each of the next 2 years, he could make an argument to be paid more than Marner for sure.

Although Chevy is actually competent, so it's unlikely.

It's a spectacular deal for 2020 and 2021.

After that... well, there's going to be a dilemma for the Jets if he snaps back to 40g form. That next contract could very well be in the $10M+ range.

2yrs is better than 3....which sounds odd. But true

Not when you’re the Lightning and Palat comes off the books in three years. It all depends on the specific circumstances of the player and team.

The next two seasons are massive for laine now. He can put up 100 goals and get paid 12m a year or he could have another two seasons like last and barely get a raise. will be interesting to see which laine we get.
