I did a brief search and couldn't find any existing threads for this topic, so I thought this might be an interesting discussion to start.

Hat tricks are not an everyday occurrence and usually scored by mid-to-highly skilled players. Who is, in your opinion, the worst NHL player ever to score a hat trick?

Jim McKenzie is probably one of the most obscure ones. He had long career and mostly known for fighting, in his best season had five goals.

Eric Boulton had a hat trick this year.

Mick Vukota.

17 goals in 546 career games, career high of 4 goals in a season. Had a hat-trick in 1990.

Eric Boulton is right up there, but his goal-scoring record is actually a bit better than Vukota's.

All 3 of Alexei Yegorov's career NHL goals came in one game in 1996 - probably had the worst career of any player to score a hat trick.

________

Worst player to ever score 4 goals in a game is probably Jaroslav Svejkovsky.

I was gonna say Kevyn Adams, but god, it's not even close. Many worse players have done it.

A few seasons back, didn't Adams at one point have 6 goals and both were from hat tricks?

Great idea for a thread. I'm stunned to learn of hat tricks by Vukota and McKenzie!

Finally, a mention of Deron Quint.

Ian Laperriere once had a hat trick as well.

Andy Delmore did so in the playoffs.

When Martin Lapointe was a Bruin he got a hatty against Martin Brodeur. I don't know who was more surprised, Lapointe or Brodeur

Somewhere
All of these players have more hat trick than Shane Doan and Pavel Datsyuk (in the regular season).

And Sheldon Souray once scored a hat trick vs Nashville as a member of the Habs.

Chris Simon once finished 19th in the NHL in goals.

Yeah, that was the year Adam Oates should have taken half his salary.

But no one has mentioned Matthew Barnaby yet? Maybe not the worst ever but he did it in the playoffs against Montreal. Still can't stand the guy to this day. As a former player or as an analyst. I mean does he have to be on EVERY episode of Off the Record making googly eyes with his man crush Michael Lansberg? He still has that arrogant smirk to this day.
