Has to be Lyle Odellein.

Not only was he a bad player, but he also looked like Cornelius from Planet of the Apes which should push him over the top to win this topic.

Odelien developed into a pretty good defensive d-man. He in no way is anywhere near one of the worst players to ever score a hat trick.

It's astounding that Pavel Datsyuk never scored a hat trick* while the players mentionned in this thread did!

*based on a recent news blurb celebrating Shane Doan's first hatty I recently saw on RDS.
