You know if you start calling for Yedlin and you're talking about trying to make a WC quarterfinal, it kinda shows you how far there is to go really. Honestly the U.S. depth is still not quite there. I think they actually did really well at this tournament, and it's honestly the gung-ho American chauvinism of the FOX crews that create a false set of expectations.

Again though, really good younger team, but tactically not as astute. Hence three goals that come from lack of awareness in marking. You put in older players this team never would have made it so far. Our older generation of players suck ass and they're losers that's why they missed 2018. Keep those losers away from the team.

Because experienced teams like the Dutch took advantage of their inexperience on every goal. Veterans wouldn’t make those mistakes.
Those veterans couldn't even make the World Cup so you're right about that part. They'd never be there to make a mistake. Please stop.

Do you know who our CBs are? Do you know who that third goal was on? Do you know how many games Adams has played? Man you are freaking clueless. Our vets are f***ing trash.

Adams and Dest at fault for first two goals by blowing their man markings. Hell, Dest looked completly gassed by the end of the first half.

Any truth to that story about the flu going through the dutch team?

The depth wasn’t there but they were an injured roster going into the tournament. The media predictions of the team going into the cup was on the money.

It's tiring listen to the commentary after the game, they need to stop with the "this is a great learning experience" crap and how US is knocking on the door of being a top team. We're a mediocre soccer nation who make the world cup because of the confederation we're in. Stop trying to tell us we have a chance to win the world cup, it's not gonna happen. Getting out of the group and maybe making the quarters is as good as they'll get.

Agreed which is why I didn't watch that stupid shit. Our 28-35 year old generation of players are too terrible to be there, and that's a big deal. Every other team that made the knockouts had much larger contribution from players that age than we did.

That's alright though. If you start crying over losing that game, and you don't know why or how, and if you don't think the team did pretty well despite that stuff, get over yourself.

Being the youngest team in the tournament and making the knockouts is a good thing, they host the tournament in four years and there's no reason to play old hanger on kinds of players. Yedlin is a terrible player and that's a major reason why Netherlands scored the third goal. He doesn't take the ball off their attacker and doesn't close down the cross leaving Adams to do it instead.
You missed the part where he setup numerous scoring chances that the young players couldn’t capitalize on.

FOX was predicting the U.S. to win this match and from the way they made it sound - and I'm talking about Lalas, Dempsey, Donovan and whoever that clownish host is - it wasn't even going to be close. They were talking "we're here to win the whole thing". Obviously that's done in part to generate viewer interest and just how sports media works in this country, but I can see how Americans who aren't regular watchers would get the wrong sense of the power balance here.

They might do better in four years. I'm not going to write that possibility off. It will be interesting to see what players like Adams, McKennie, Musah, Reyna, Aaronson, CCV, Scally, McKenzie, Richards, Tillman are like four years from now.

No, the blind doofuses (Read: Alexi Lalas) were spouting patriotism and not X’s and O’s. The Dutch was going to win this game.

The Dutch weren't without vulnerabilities to be honest. Difficult to see them advance past Argentina if that's who they face.
I agree, NL raised their game somewhat today, and it was enough for the opponent they faced. They’ll need to raise it again in the QF.
Happy with the win; brave effort from USA, nothing to be ashamed of.

For US to have any chance of making it further next year, there needs to be major improvements in key areas. Namely CB, ST, and coach.

The problem is all those attacking players along with Weah and Sargent are all right footed and mostly play the right side. The talent is oversaturated in a couple of positions, you can't get all these guys on the field together and make a competent squad.

Well yeah probably but I want someone who doesn’t like MLS. Multiple guys who shouldn’t have been there.

That bar is on the ground and no he didn’t. He did the same. Both teams made it to the round of 16 and no further.
You seem to have forgotten that Jurgen was coaching the team heading towards the 2018 WC and he got fired after too many losses during the qualifiers. That is why the US has inexperienced players for 2022.

way too many people overrated the US and underestimated the dutch

this result was very predictable based on USA's performances in the group stage
