When is the first televised game?

According to the official website:

Thursday, September 8
Team Czech Republic vs. Team Russia - Yubileyny Sports Palace, St. Petersburg
12:30pm - ESPN3, Sportsnet, TVA Sports

This is pre-tournament.

As for the actual Tournament:

Saturday, Sept. 17
Team USA vs. Team Europe, 3:30 p.m., ESPN2
Team Czech Republic vs. Team Canada, 8 p.m., ESPNEWS

I'm not sure if I even get ESPN3 or ESPNNEWS, lol. I hope so.

Anyway, clink on BBKer's link. You can see the TV schedule for all games.

Looks like JT Thriller is LW on the fourth line for NA. But I imagine lines will change from practice.
Side-note: That Top-6 is going to be so much fun to watch.

i would expect Miller-Couturier are the line against the other team's top line
More like an old school 3d line

Miller isn't exactly a defensive specialist..

If they stick with Miller-Coots-Matthews, that would be more of a checking line in the OZ and can play the corners and still score.

I can't imagine they'd get too many DZ shifts. Though if they have Coots...

Hard to beat the Canada Cups ! Bring them back . I don't know why....but I feel this is going to be an up sized rec tournament with no hatred between players at all and basically a no hitter . Maybe it is just me .

nhl network had game 3 from the 96 world cup...so many hall of famers and legends on those 2 teams.

that tourney was the best cause it was pre-nhlers in the olympics and there was nothing like it since the canada cup in 87...now though having seen the nhlers in 5 olympics and another world cup i don't know if people care about watching best on best tournament...at least in the us i think most of the focus is on how the tourney might impact their nhl teams season

I'll believe it when I see it.

I can't imagine these players want to get hurt before the regular season starts. There is no way players will go all out finishing every hit, and blocking every shot.

Did you watch the 1996 world cup of hockey? That final series between USA and Canada was the some of the best and most vicious hockey I've seen in quite some time.

Team USA is an absolute joke at forward. Hard to root for.

It's just so ****ing laughable. How on god's green earth is Phil Kessel not on this team. How the hell is David Backes and Brandon Dubinsky making it over him and Tyler Johnson.

On defense you seriously chose Matt Niskanen over Yandle or Shattenkirk or Justin Faulk?

Whoever is picking the teams at USA hockey needs to be fired immeidately. I actually think the leftovers from the USA could probably beat the USA team that was picked.

It's like the Olympic team, they aren't choosing the best players or the ones that give them a chance. They go for their boys.

I think J.T. Miller is underrated here as well - his defense can improve, of course, and his consitency offensive.. However I remember his pass to Zuci when he scored last year playoff - J.T is a really talented player. And hopefully a breakthrough season for him this year with 60+ pts!
I`m really looking forward to see J.T Miller at world cup with the NA team.

You have to remember that for many of the players, the 1996 WCH was the Canada Cup they grew up watching. And Olympic hockey wasn't yet available to them. I think the players' natural competitiveness will kick in here (similar to how it does towards the end of the all-star game). But I don't expect it to be anything near the 1996 WCH, which was for many players their very first best-on-best international tournament.

They're going to get smack by the kids

I agree 100%

Team USA is a joke. They need a complete re-think of what makes a team successful. It's like they're trying to recreate the 1980 team, but forget what made that team successful was Herb teaching those kids to play USSR hockey, not "dump and chase in your face blue collar USA hockey".

Other teams are going to skate circles around the USA team in this tournament. I hope it leads to changes.

I'm rooting for the U23 team so that maybe the idiots who picked the roster for team USA for Sochi and this tournament learn that hockey skill >>> veteran leadership, tuffness, and whatever other nonsense they take into account. Justin Abdelkader and Matt Niskanen? Are you serious?

NBC golden child "Matty" Niskanen is the best defensive defenseman on the US team, according to the brilliant, currently employed minds at the NHL network, so stop picking on him!
