[spoil]Amazonians are not technically demigoddesses. Wonder Woman is the only demigoddess. The rest of them are superhuman. And they may or may not be invulnerable to a single gunshot depending on the wishes of the writers. Their level of invulnerability have been fairly flexible in the comics. Obviously, in the DC universe, they are vulnerable to bullets.[/spoil]

Thanks. I just assumed that they'd be stronger and tougher than "normal" humans.

I'm a huge Marvel fan and IMO this movie destroyed Civil War. I hope that DC carries the magic from this movie into Justice League because B vs S and Suicide Squad don't hold a candle to this movie.

Well I finally saw this yesterday against my better judgment. A friend that I play Battlefield 1 with told me it was great and so good and just like BF1. Yeah no, it degenerated into the CGI crapfest that I expected it to be.

I'll be honest, I can't stand the constant stream of CGI cartoony looking superhero films that Hollywood is churning out these days. The last superhero film I watched before this was The Dark Knight Rises about 5 years ago. Proud to say I've never seen Avengers, Capt America, Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, Wolverine, X-Men whatever and many others I can't remember.

I read in this thread how glad people were they didn't cut the No Man's Land scene, yeah I wished they had, the music swells and the camera goes in slow motion as she climbs out of the trench. Then CGI bullets and explosions rain supreme and Germans show faces of anger and astonishment as it looked like the whole scene was entirely filmmed in a studio. Wonder Woman looked like she didn't have a speck of mud or blood on her mostly exposed body or her one-piece bathing suit of armor after killing a hundred or so Germans.

Oh, did I mention that Wonder Woman and her Amazon people are murderers? Yes they are, I think Wonder Woman kills more Germans in this film than Robocop kills crooks in his first film in 1987. I miss the honest hero's like Christopher Reeve's Superman and Christian Bale's Batman where they try not to kill people. In fact the Amazonian women on Wonder Woman's island were the first to fire at the Germans who accidentally stumbled upon them, murderers the lot of them.

If I recall correctly, Wonder Woman's backstory was supposed to take place during WWII and not WWI. Yeah, they should've stuck to that, Imperial Germany of WWI is not the same as Nazi Germany of WWII, yet German officers were behaving like Nazis in WWI. General Ludendorff can just execute a subordinate officer in cold blood in front of witnesses on a whim likes its no big deal. They do gas experiments on captured soldiers and gas shell captured towns on their side of the front, yes they are big bad Nazis in WWI.

Of course they all sing kumbaya my lord when the baddie's spell is released at the end because we know the Germans behaved the way they did in WWI because of the God of War's spell...Riiiight. I guess that explains Adolph Hitler's rise to power and WWII, once again they should've stuck with WWII.

Then we have Sgt Getraer's kid, aka Nu Capt Kirk, in yet another freaking movie. Are there no other American actors good enough for these roles? Why is Hollywood obsessed with making him a star and shoving him in our face in every movie? Of course he has his rag tag team including Miss Israel that can just walk to the front lines without passing any security, lmao.

The film also includes a sly comment on how bad white Americans are for killing all the Indians when they still exist and some are making a fat living on Casinos, whatever. Oh, I love how lax German guards are by letting Nu Kirk into the ball in the castle without any papers or Miss Israel with a freaking sword sticking out the back of her dress, shall I go on? No I shan't.

Ha ha, yep it is, sorry if you liked this film.

My review was a little cynical, but I meant it, 5/10 for me.

The filmmakers should've watched All Quiet on the Western Front (1930) to learn how to deliver a much better World War I experience.

Ha ha, sorry it was fresh in my mind. I really, really despise CGI superhero movies which are everywhere. Everybody talking about how great this film is compared to other recent superhero movies just means it's good crap vs bad crap, but in the end it's all crap.

You said The Dark Knight Rises was the last comic book film you watched. How can you accurately comment on the state of comic book movies if you haven't seen a full one since 2012?

He's not really commenting on the state of comic book movies. He's commenting on the state of war movies being tainted by the recent fusion of the war genre and the superhero genre.

Which I would agree on, the war aspects of Wonder Woman weren't realistic and actually made the movie less enjoyable and believable for me.

Well....GoldenShark will just have to wait for Dunkirk I guess.

Haven't seen WW so I can't comment on the part of the story based around the war. Thought they did a good job in the 1st Cap movie though...

2nd paragraph of the 1st is about all of them though no?

I did like the homage to this:

Action_Comics_1.jpg

I also thought it was grossly inaccurate that there was a populated village still within ~200 yards of no man's land at that stage in the war.

BTW, when Diana is trying to convince Captain Kirk to go rescue the village, she says, "But they have women and children!". Why does she make this distinction, as in, how does she know that is what you say in that situation if you want to appeal to someone like Captain Kirk? Why does this distinction make a difference to her, especially the women part? The answer to these questions is important.

Yeah technically she should think women are strong than men and probably wouldn't know what to think of children since first trip to England aside she's probably never seen one other than herself. And she was a badass little monster.

I don't care if you like the film or not. Just thought half way through when you started going on about them being murderers and calling her lady Israel or whatever it was a parody post.

I was being a little facetious when I wrote it, but I remember watching it going why are the Amazon women attacking and killing the Germans? What did they do to them? Do they kill everybody that stumbles upon them and fire first and ask questions later?

I mean they show the leader of the women guard do a slow motion somersault while firing 3 arrows at once killing 3 German soldiers. Those guys were just conscripts following orders and firing back after being attacked, but we're supposed to believe they're just horrible Nazis in WWI.

Gal Gadot was Miss Israel of 2004, she's unbelievably gorgeous and easy on the eyes to look at, her looks are arguably the best things about this film, but her whole battle scene on the western front made me laugh.

What has changed in the last 5 years? They all heavily rely on CGI to show unbelievable cartoony stunts and explosions. Where's the real stunt men and practical in-camera effects? Do stunt men and real explosions even exist anymore?

Even though I haven't sat and wasted 2 hrs of my life for the last 5 years watching these live action cartoon films until Wonder Woman, I'm assaulted every year with trailers and commercials for all these superhero films and they purposely highlight the biggest CGI action scenes which always look phony. They even replay these movies years later on tv and I catch bits and pieces of them and lmao.

I saw a part of the end of Man of Steel on tv and it looked horrendously cartoony, not to mention the god awful scene of watching Superman break Zod's neck. Yes, give me Superman II with Christopher Reeve and Terence Stamp anyday.

I also remember catching a scene from Avengers on tv where Scarlet Johansen was riding some flying vehicle fighting cartoon aliens that looked completely lame. Why do people like this stuff? It's like pablum for the masses.

Well....GoldenShark will just have to wait for Dunkirk I guess.

Yes, now that's something I can't wait to see!

Dunkirk is full of CGI also....hard to find a movie these days that has no CGI at all.

Gets a solid 9/10 from me. Easily the best superhero movie to this point imo.

Character development was on point. Thought they did a really good job with Diana adjusting to man's society. You stick any woman living in the place she did and i'm pretty sure that's how they would react.

Well placed humor too. The whole bit about Steve's um, little buddy and the joke about "where i am come from, that's called slavery" were so blunt and perfectly inserted. And then the little things like how they slipped her "human" name into the story almost seemlessly

I really liked the way they handled Ares too. He's not the villian imo, he's the truth. The metaphorical equal of humanity looking at themselves in the mirror. Like he said, he didn't make the great powers go to war, he just gave them the vehicle to carry it out.

Really well written overall and i'm glad i went to see it in theater.

Only things that kind of bothered me were the musical score, as having a more rock inspired score seemed a tad out of place and while this likely matters little, Gal Gadot's accent took a bit of getting used to. Probably because i grew up with the Justice League cartoons and other stuff. She still killed it as WW so whatever, just a bit weird at first.

Really enjoyed Wonder Woman and that's after being very disappointed by Man of Steel (which I thought would be good) and Batman vs. Superman (which I knew would suck).

The best comic book film since Captain America: Winter Soldier (just ahead of Deadpool) and one of the top 5-10 made thus far.
