Ah well -- another season of sliding toward mediocrity

FLip >>> Weiss
Brunner >>> Alfredsson

Homer glass much? Or your way of using > is way different than others.
>>> usually means much better/not in same class.

No he isn't. Fil is much more physically gifted, I agree. But Weiss has put up comparable numbers and woeful Florida teams and much, much less inconsistent.

Fil is a good playmaker and good two-way forward, and it sucks he's leaving but Weiss has a much better on-ice mentality.

He's played top line, first unit PP minutes.

Playing top line minutes on bad teams has NEVER been bad for production.

Think Ray Whitney/.

Anyone who expects Weiss to score 25 goals and 60 points without first unit PP minutes is in for a terrible shock

Lol, I was thinking the opposite actually. Both will improve our team. Not to mention Tatar, Nyquist and Andersson will actually be playing all year.

Not to mention, the players that matter most -- are another year older (Datsyuk and Zetterberg) and further away from their prime

If Weiss signs, no way does Cleary, Flip or Brunner return. This roster might be set after this move...have to believe all other lineup holes will be filled internally (ie--Tatar).

If we don't sign Cleary, I am happy.

Agreed:
So what are we looking at? Signing Weiss probably means D+Z

Zetterbeg Datsyuk Bertuzzi
Franzen Weiss Alfredsson
Abdelkader Helm Miller
Nyquist Andersson Tatar

Sammy/Tootoo/Eaves/Emmerton

We still need to cut two guys

Really scared we are going after him. He is definately not worth 5+ million. and if reports are correct he is seeking 5+ years.

I believe it would be easier to get a center next year than this. And the quality of centers hopefully will be much better (2nd line wise no chance #1 center hits fa).

Emmerton is easy one. He will be there until Helm comes back than probably waived.
Second one might also depend on injury. If Bert/Sammy is injured we don't have to move any one. If they are both healthy, I would think that Eaves would go.

I would keep Eaves over Sammy but probably not going to happen.

The line up there is good but I think this would be interesting.

Franzen/Nyquist - Z - Alfee
Abderkader/Tatar - Datsyuk - Bert/Miller
Franzen/Nyquist - Weiss - Abderkader/Tatar
Andersson - Helm - Bert/Miller

Spread the offense out. Datsyuk is suck with weak wingers again but 3 scoring lines.

I have a feeling he will be coming here under 4.5 mil if he's coming here.

Those later years are probably going to be him used as a 3C. I'm fine with that if Helm's back can't support him playing hockey anymore. The reason I'm fine with him being a 3C in a few years because the cap will likely be up to what it was last year or even beyond that.

He's an upgrade over Flip, he's a great two way player, he goes out on the PK, he can play PP. He's a jack of all trades #2 center. He's what this team needs.

He's worth what the market will pay him

Yep, Weiss is a legit #2 center. That's a role the Wings groomed Filppula for but he could never quite fill the spot. Our top 6 should be much more potent with Alfredsson and Weiss.

I would be good with Weiss but I just hope we don't overpay(I know impossible in FA)

That's why I thought Grabo would be not bad since he is already getting paid buy-out money(I also know that doesn't mean he will accept less money).

But I don't think our team tolerates a player who rips his coach in media.
