I'm guessing Cholowski/Lindstrom are in the same spot Yzerman put Koekkoek and Dotchin 4 years ago in Tampa. Have some upside or serviceability enough to carry as #4LD and #4RD to pitch in when someone gets hurt and try to steal a regular job before some better options materialize.
Dotchin lasted a year before that whole contract termination for being out of shape thing came up, and Koekkoek was a healthy scratch more often than not for a season and a half before getting dealt for Rutta.
