Winger Jeff Skinner is the most likely to move and it could happen as soon as the next 7-10 days, judging from the activity there. The 26-year-old is entering the final year of a contract that carries a $5.75 million cap hit before becoming UFA in July 2019. A source from a team that inquired on him recently said the price was too high for them: a first-round pick and a prospect. Another source indicated that was indeed the price or close to it.

#10-20 2018 1st + decent prospect
#20-30 2018 1st + A prospect

Probably close to the ask. Skinner has a NMC. It’s not known how much of a factor that could be - most indications up to this point have been “mutual interest among some lifelong Canes and team to make a change”. That is just a general sentiment and might not apply to Skinner individually.

Skinner is in a contract year with a new coach dedicated to opening up the offense. The offer seems like it would have to be better than what they could potentially get at the Trade Deadline.

If the Canes are moving him for futures then Sakic has to be in on this with the 16th overall+ He fits a huge need, the Avs have the cap space to re-sign him, and he's apparently good friends with Landeskog to boot.

I don't get it, Carolina is a goalie away from being a good team, why are they trading key pieces?

Skinner has 1 year left on his deal and currently holds the record for most NHL games without a Playoff appearance. The Canes want to establish a new team culture which is easier to do with new faces (look at Vegas).

Easy to see why the two might explore options if the value is there. Especially if Skinner could pick a team where he would potentially want to re-sign on July 1. Whereas the Canes are unlikely to make that commitment right now.

13th + a prospect/young player not named Heiskanen for Skinner please and thx. Would be very fitting for this to happen at the draft though...in Dallas...

That doesn't seem like that bad a price for Skinner, though i guess it depends on the pick# and prospect name.

Have a feeling we're going to get taken to the woodshed on this one. Skinner averages 29 goals over his entire career, and is exactly the kind of player who would explode statistically on a good team.

I'm preparing to see something like a mid-first that we spend on a checking center, plus a prospect who never makes it, in exchange for the next Kessel type story.

Skinner scored 37 just last season on a bad team, with Ryan/Rask as his centers, and only on the 2nd PP unit, so I have little doubt that he scores 30+ no matter where he plays next season. 35+ goals, even if he stays in Carolina, won't surprise me at all. I just hope he goes out west.

Kessel was a PPG player at his peak in Toronto; what he did last season was surprising for the age in which he did it, not so much that he did it.

Skinner hasn't shown the vision needed to be a high-end point producer, imo. I'm not sure he ends up playing on Crosby or Malkin's wing if traded to Pittsburgh, for example, given his puck dominant style of play.

People aren't going to care so much about the PPG aspect when he's scoring 45 goals on a contending team.
