Very solid post. Certainly worth coming in out of the shadows to comment on. Will spend some time digesting it before I do.With less than 2 weeks until the trade window opens back up and training camp coming a few weeks after that I figured I would post what I have in terms of players, picks and conditions and my best guess at a 50 man protected list basing it on U18 players being on a separate list. Can’t guarantee it’s all accurate but it’s the best I’ve been able to come up with.
Picks and Conditions
I know I posted this a couple of days ago but I have updated to add the conditional pick related to the Hunter Carrick deal since he won’t be playing in the league by the looks of it. Windsor has some picks available, the cupboards aren’t completely bare but they certainly aren’t overflowing either. If they were to try to make any significant deals to add they would simply empty the cupboards and be right back where they were a season or two ago and not have enough to make a run. While there is a player or two it would be nice to see them add that really brings something to the team I don’t see it happening unless it is part of a larger deal and Windsor really doesn’t have the high end talent to move out that would return those types of players.

Potential Trades/Released Players
These are only my opinions but ones that could make sense depending on who shows/makes the roster out of camp.
Ben Garagan – Undrafted OA who is likely to be released if no trade can be found for him. The only way I see him here is if Boka and/or Purboo were to be dealt before the season started or there is a deal in the works that would be finalized very early in the season. I can’t see a card being spent to have him sit and wait until the deadline so best guess is he is not likely to even be here come training camp.
Chris Playfair – I can’t see him remaining with the team this season. He took a step back last year and whuile he had an injury that was part of the problem he struggled early in the year and never got going very much throughout the year. We have enough inconsistent players here already. I think a deal that brings back a mid or late round pick can be had but he has been surpassed by all the kids and likely all the 03s coming in will do the same. He’s a fourth line player on this team even including the 03 kids and could go to a rebuilding team that doesn’t have the assets to add older depth.
Daniel D’Amico – I don’t expect to see him moved but he is one who could be on the bubble by mid season if he shows signs of inconsistency coming back into his game. He will start the season here but if he struggles and starts to drop down the line up I could see a reason to move him. Could return a 3rd + in a deal and again, like Playfair would go to a rebuilding team to add middle six ability to a young, rebuilding roster.
Jordan Frasca – Would hate to see him go but Letowski has stalled his development and taken him from a middle six potential forward to a fourth line forward. With Johnston coming up if he develops well early he will be moving up the roster leaving Frasca on the outside looking in. He should be able to return a 4th round pick or so and would thrive in a middle six role on a young, rebuilding team. He will never be a to line player but he can be more then he will be given the chance to be here in Windsor.
Thomas Stevenson – I think he will be given every chance to be here this year but as an OA his future here will depend on a number of things. He needs to provide more value than he would return when compared to the thought of bringing in an OA D from elsewhere. I don’t think Windsor should be spending the assets needed to upgrade, depending on who comes out of training camp. He will never be more than a 3rd pairing/7th D this season so it will be tough to justify keeping him. A late mid round/late round pick is all that would likely come back if he were dealt.
Louka Henault – I don’t expect Henault to be dealt unless there are some surprises at camp or a deal to bring in an upgrade on D. He showed improvement last season and while he still needs to continue that improvement he could have some value as part of a bigger deal to bring someone else in. I think, as it stands at least he will be here this year barring any surprises.
Nathan Staios – This is a tough one. Not his biggest fan and with the rumours/speculation around the deadline that he would not be opposed to a trade I think it becomes possible he does get dealt. Like Henault it becomes a question of who comes out of camp and what role he would have after that determines his fate unless of course he were to request a trade. He would probably provide the most value on this list if he were dealt and could offset much of the cost if he were part of a larger deal.
Colton Incze – I expect him to be here to start training camp and if Medina and Piiroinen show they can be a solid tandem then he will be dealt before the season starts. A number of teams could use a backup goaltender with experience, even an OA and hopefully he could return something similar to what Windsor gave up for him, a 4th. Doubt they get that but a 5th to a 7th wo0uld be decent.
Who Comes Out Of Camp?
Looking at who could potentially come out of camp, provided they are there will determine who all gets moved. Some speculation/comments last season about some players and contract expectations being the reason they weren’t on the team but in some instances where they are not NHL drafted and don’t have NCAA commits it’s time to decide if a normal education package plus the paid schooling while they play is worth more than not reporting at all and sticking with JR. B or Tier II or retiring from the game and paying their own education at this point. Obviously any of the higher end flyers should they be willing report would change a lot in terms of who gets moved and who has a shot at camp but the following five are those who I think based on discussions on here etc have a chance should they report. I don’t think any of the 03s that haven’t been signed will be ready to jump in this year but there are a couple who could be close.
Austin Brimmer – 2001/08/10 – RW – R – 6’3” – 205 (Draft Eligible 2020/No Commit) – It was speculated he could make the team last year but the education package was a sticking point. Is he still a possibility? He would slot in on the 4th line to start with the potential to move up to the 3rd line depending how he and others progressed. He could also make Purboo and/or Boka expendable to return assets to stockpile for the future. He would not likely replace Purboo’s scoring but wouldn’t be expected to either. He would be a value move that could improve the 4th line while maximizing Purboo’s value in a deal instead of seeing him drop down the line up in a reduced role as I think we will see as the season progresses unless he were to have a Luchuk type year which I don’t see happening.
McKay Hayes – 2002/01/27 – C – L – 6’2” – 181 (Draft Eligible 2020/No Commit) – Another kid who could have a shot at the roster if he has progressed. Again we are likely looking at 3rd/4th line potential but allows value by replacing some of the older players who could be dealt for assets to stockpile for the future.
Spencer Evans – 2002/04/19 – D – L – 6’4” – 194 (Draft Eligible 2020/Brown U) – I think he is the biggest question mark at this point in terms of players who were thought they may show but didn’t show up last year. He has an NCAA commit so getting him to report would take a solid offer from Windsor but with the changes and chaos of the last few months does that end up helping Windsor’s case with Rychel out of the picture or has it soured him completely? Probably the biggest of those who were thought could potentially report beyond the obvious flyer picks. If he reported than with him and Rafkin in the line up this is where the potential for dealing Staois and/or Henault comes into play. Both would be upgrades on the two of them so both could become trade bait to add elsewhere.
Owen Shier – 2202/01/28 – D – R – 6’1” – 185 (Draft Eligible 2020/No Commit) – I’ve heard him mentioned as someone who had the potential to crack the D this year. He would obviously start on the bottom pairing but between him and Jodoin, if he shows he is ready they can solidify the right side of the D and push Corcoran and Ladd ahead of them either improving their game or making one expendable at the deadline.
Cade Lemmer – 2002/01/18 – C – L – 5’9” – 183 (Draft Eligible 2020/No Commit) – He’s been mentioned in the past as someone who could possibly be here this season. From what I understand he has middle six potential so start on the third line and prove himself from there. He’s an American currently with no NCAA commitment so it comes down to does he hang on this year and try to get a commit or push for a better education from Windsor or does he show up and sign if he earns it?
I don’t know who Windsor would target in potential trades that could bring players in, I have a couple of players in mind I would like to see based on their age and expectations of their skill level but the cost would exceed what I would want to see Windsor spend unless of course bigger deals could be made with the extras it would cost Windsor coming from assets acquired in separate deals. No, I’m not expecting all listed to be dealt or to show up and make the team, just some thoughts on who I feel couold be dealt for various reason or make the team. In many cases each is reliant on something from each list happening.
Thoughts? Corrections? Roster projections?
Just a guess but I could see a market for Incze this year - seems to be a shortage of goalies this year and Incze played well enough to share a starting role with a team needing a decent goalie. Don't let the numbers fool you he was let down many times defensively so with a better team in front of him he would be a quality starter. I would at least like to see the 4th back as you suggested but that is a fair return for him at this point. Not sure if he is considering CIS or returning to the OHL but we will hear shortly I hope. With less than 2 weeks until the trade window opens back up and training camp coming a few weeks after that I figured I would post what I have in terms of players, picks and conditions and my best guess at a 50 man protected list basing it on U18 players being on a separate list. Can’t guarantee it’s all accurate but it’s the best I’ve been able to come up with.

Very solid post. Certainly worth coming in out of the shadows to comment on. Will spend some time digesting it before I do.
Garagan - Not really seeing any scenario that he would fit with the Spits or another team looking for an OA. I'm sure that he will play CIS or possibly a pro spot here or in Europe.
I'm here, going through the post; lots to take in haha
Garagan - I don't see him returning unless they're forced. He had a chance to do something last season and didn't.
Playfair - I see him returning because of the injuries last season. He didn't have a true chance to show his stuff. In fact, I'm mildly surprised he even played in the second half.
Stevenson - Completely depends on who's in camp, defensively. While he's fairly reliable, he doesn't bring serious value in any one areas.
Incze - I think Piiroinen and Medina will be given the ball to run with. I don't see Incze coming back, even for camp. That said, he'll likely be in camp just because I said this. If we can get a mid-round pick for him, I'm all for it. The kid has talent and showed it in flashes.
Prospects wise, I want to see Evans and Lemmer get a shot. Do what's necessary to get them here; both could be huge additions.
We also can't forget about Maggio, who is likely to take up a spot.
Great to see you posting again. Missed your insight and input the last few weeksVery solid post. Certainly worth coming in out of the shadows to comment on. Will spend some time digesting it before I do.

Unbelievable effort thought and time compiling all this great information. Wouldn't be surprised if Bowler gets a hold of this to catch up on the state of affairs of the team lol
I don't think the team can afford to spend the season tip-toeing around deals/signings in case of future sales. You bought the shares for a reason, to invest. Build the team properly and watch the investment grow.
My gut feeling says Bowler will make a move or two come August.
Well I do hope you are right and I am wrong but there are too many signs pointing the other way.I don't think the team can afford to spend the season tip-toeing around deals/signings in case of future sales. Any move that will impact a sale will go through some heavy scrutiny. I agree that they very well may end the year short again . The logic with that is how many education packages are tagged to the sale? There are kids that could come up and fill a roll but they will be leary of eating the costs with the chance the fill-ins may only play 15-20 games. Not a cost effective move for the future and my gut feel is all decisions this year will be based on future costs and impact to a possible future sale. Sure hope I'm wrong on this one.

While I'm sure there will be moves at some point they likely won't go beyond basic housekeeping unless they are to bring in picks
My gut says deals like Frasca for a pick, Boka for a couple of picks, that kind of thing. (NOT the actual value, but the concept of the deal itself. They've been fortunate to bring in four young forwards, plus a couple of D-men, so there's a reasonable expectation that something has to give. You can then use those picks down the road, even at the deadline, to tweak the roster if needed.
That being said, I would like to see an 01 or 02, such as a Brimmer or Lemmer, make the club. Heck, I'd even try for Tanner Kelly if he's possible.
The last line there is big, too - a move that gets the fans talking about that move and the future, rather than the ownership, isn't a bad idea.
