Not for a looong time.
It’s too prohibitive to offer sheet most players.
Not for a looong time.
even if that's true, which I doubt, it doesn't really mean anything. it could've been someone with the same nameAccording to Twitter, Willy just landed in Zurich...

Do we know the tail number of his plane?
Someone needs to follow him on flight tracker

Someone heard "Mr. William Nylander come to the desk" (or something like that). People are reaallllllly reaching now. At least wait for someone to see the damn guy, those blonde locks are unmistakable.According to Twitter, Willy just landed in Zurich...
Willy would be unable to sign a new contract before January 1, which would be a risk (though less and less of one by the day, at this point). We have a ton of cap space this year. If we signed Willy to a massive 1-year $12 million contract, how soon could we extend him at say 6x6?
$48 million over 7 years is more than fair and gets the long term cap hit down.
The tweet in discussion. There is a flight to Moscow tonight and a flight to Toronto in the morning. Take it with a grain of salt.

That's an interesting idea. Not sure if that would be cap circumvention though. Signing him to a 1 year 11M this season then next off season for 6 years at 6.5M per essentially brings the total to 7.1M per year.
I don't see why it would be cap circumvention but Nylander would be risking like 40M+ if he had a career ending injury.
Well there’s proof. He signed with Zurich old for 8 mill per season.
Wish him well.

Only if you artificially restrict the evaluation period to the length of the alternative contract, weight the opportunity cost of the term forgone higher than everything before and everything after, and ignore exit strategy/ leverage.
Apparently it is brutal to the Leafs but no one else.
it's the same concept people mentioned for JT. play one year at 15 million (or whatever) then sign a new deal at like 7 ( or whatever) for the remaining years. he gets the same cash total, we get a better cap hit.
And the Leafs would be risking having to qualify him for 12 million dollars next year or lose him for nothing. It would be so incredibly stupid for the Leafs to do that. Nylander would jump all over that offer.I don't see why it would be cap circumvention but Nylander would be risking like 40M+ if he had a career ending injury.
Pasta got 34 goals, 70 points on the last year of his elc. Nylander got 20 goals 60 points on the last year of his elc.If career ppg is irrelevant, how are you making a determination that Pasta>>>>>>Ehlers>Nylander?
