1.) Yes, being black is a huge part of why many people dislike Subban and the portrayal of black athletes in general
2.) Playing in a Canadian market and dealing with toxic media/fans is far more hurtful to a player's reputation than playing in an American market
3.) Winners can get away with anything and Kucherov has 2 Cups

Yeah, and Russians are the most liked people in North America...

One player is loud and obnoxious the majority of the time and has allegedly pissed off 2 teams worth of teammates. The other is known for being a reserved guy who very rarely ruffles feathers and has been with the same team since being drafted.

But we all know why this comparison has been made.

The joke at a press conference that launched a thousand angry HFborad threads.

Habs fans, it was joke. Get over it.
Habs fans aren't shitting on Kuch the same way it wasn't Tampa fans shit talking Habs fans in the finals, it was bitter Vegas and Leafs fans, and a few random butt hurt trolls.

I see very few people legitimately upset about Kucherov, and it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the finals match-up. The reaction of most people seems to be cover your eyes that's embarrassing but funny and meme worthy. Like your friend who got to drunk downtown but is hilarious to see do stupid shit. He's an idiot and you like him, but you're not going to refrain from admitting what he's doing is idiotic.

Then there seems to be another group completely celebrating it, either because they're happy he's won, that's his talented and letting lose, or just a fan of the party lifestyle. Which are all fine because he was just won and has a summer to revel in it.

I'm seeing 10x more post like yours saying "Kucherov is awesome, get over it!" then people actually complaining about it, and that's honestly the more annoying thing. I prefer memes and cocaine jokes.

Neither are "great" personalities. They've been defaulted by NHL fans as having "great" personalities because they are the only NHL players to have shown ANY personality and not just sticking to the script.

What? Kuch by all accounts is a practicing Russian Orthodox. Just because he drinks, which Orthodoxy allows, doesn't reflect in anyway on his trust in god.
I saw Khabib trust in God. He showed it publicly. I didn't see it from Kuch. The difference is Khabib always showed his trust in God in public.

Because Kucherov is white and Subban is black, and covert racism, prejudice, stereotypes and biases are still extremely prevalent in society, and thus, hockey as well.

A lot of people are going to not like this answer, but it's the truth. If you don't like that it's the truth, do something to try to change it, instead of pretending that these issues don't exist.

After reading a shit ton of articles where they say Kucherov is a great personality, his post Stanley Cup win interview was epic and the leauge needs more of this this to sell the game and some people liking what he did.

But when PK Subban did showed the same personality and did some things like Kucherov (not to the level of Kucherov), he was considered a locker room cancer and this was "not something the leauge needed. And he was branded as being classless.

Why was this?

Was it because of his skin color and not many people with the same color of skin don't play hockey?
How could fans consider a player a 'locker room cancer?'

We all know why, why is Josh Ho-Sang exiled to wherever he is when all the evidence says he should have got alot more NHL time than he has

Racism? Professional pedigree? Fanbase opinion?

Also, who is to say the subject opinion is even prevalent?

My understanding is that Ho-Sang has some issues with his attitude and doesn't maintain proper fitness. Being skilled is great but if you don't work at it, it won't get you too far (remember Rob Schremp?)

The whole "controversy" over him wearing Number 66 was the dumbest thing ever though. If that jersey number is so sacred that nobody is ever allowed to wear it, retire it league wide, otherwise shut up.

Probably due to the same reason that Messier was great in the locker room in Edmonton and New York but a cancer in Vancouver.

Regardless, and ignoring the basic premise of the thread, the NHL could use more players like PK Subban and Stone Cold Nikita Kucherov.

Your understanding is propoganda used to discredit him, the evidence is Ho-Sang was deserving of alot longer of a look than he got screwed

Did Messier actually do anything wrong in Vancouver or were Canuck fans still salty about '94 upset that a 37 year old free agent didn't live up to his contract?

Propaganda?? Didn't he show up late to camp one time because he didn't set an alarm clock? That's just a guy who isn't necessarily professional enough. Unfortunately for Ho Sang, he fell in the draft due to attitude concerns and it appears those materialized and prevented him from becoming a great player...

Not to mention if you don't play good defense and turn it over too much, it's gonna be hard to see a lot of ice time under a strict disciplinarian like Trotz.

I see the typical crew is trying as hard as they can to make this about race. 1500+ posts about Kucherov acting like a douche and you pretend everyone loves him.

So he was late 1 time and his career should be ruined? Do you know how many players were late to meetings and practices, do you think he wanted to miss his first day of training camp? As for the other crap about his defensive issues, it has been proven overrated and he was getting better the more he played

I thought Kucherov acted like a disrespectful schmuck - how miserable do you have to be to have just won the cup and be mad, disrespectful, and insulting like that. As neutral fan so impressed with how he plays, his postgame wasn't colorful or fun. I am still not sure what Subban did.

How was his career "ruined"? He got multiple opportunities in the NHL and AHL for four years... from a pure hockey standpoint he's a classic "can't really produce enough for a top line role, can't play a tight enough defensive game to be useful in another role.. in particular for a team that plays a defensive brand". He's a career 0.7 PPG player.... in the AHL. He's struggled to produce consistently at the NHL level despite repeated opportunities and despite his skill. If he is "getting better" maybe someone will give him another shot. He's already 25 so he's running out of time, especially since it sounds like he got kicked off his Swedish team.

He's not that good.. and if the attitude reports are anywhere near true, then what exactly is the point?

No, it's not about skin colour, as much as people love to use that line. It's about the fact that there were multiple stories about rifts within the Montreal locker room between Subban and multiple players, while Kucherov on the other hand has now led his team to 2 cups. Pretty big difference.

He was trying so hard to be an Ovie part 2 and he seems like a tool
