Maybe Fagemo playing in Nashville's system got him to be more open to what the coaches are telling him. ( the change of scenery effect). With his AHL play this year, he won't pass thru waivers next year, but where does he fit in LA? He's not a 4th liner.

It was an idea. I didn't say it was a good idea.

Being that he models his game after Arvidsson, Fagemo could slot right into 3rd line winger and power play sniper specialist. Both righties, so that matches. Maybe not the playmaker Arvidsson is, but it makes sense.

Erik Portillo think he gets a shot at the nhl next year? To be a back up, Seems based on numbers hes been great

I'm sure he'll get a handful of games to get his feet wet but I woould imagineprogression path is full time Ontario starter for now

but he's improved by leaps and bounds as the year has gone on

I would say it is unlikely, but possible. In all likeliness, the Kings are going to be looking for a goaltender in the offseason, or do what they did this year and sign a stopgap or two, or re-sign Talbot or Rittich to another one-year deal depending on how the season plays out.

If I had to bet, the Kings are going to have a new starter and stopgap backup next year and Portillo will be given the opportunity to take over Ontario, and if he kills it there then he could find himself as the backup or in a duel for the top spot the following year.

After a slow start (poor D coverage on both goals against), the Reign battled back on the road for their 4th consecutive victory, clinching a playoff spot. Currently tied for second, however other teams have games in hand. Reign likely to finish between 2nd and 5th (top 7 make the playoffs) in a very tight division. Dell with another victory.

I understand the apprehension with the Kings recent record on giving younger goalies the crease, but unless they see a fundamental flaw in Portillo's game, I suspect he'll get every opportunity to win and NHL job next year. He's no spring chicken, turning 24 just before training camp due to his years in the NCAA, he's only been pulled once in 32 starts in the AHL in his rookie season, has played more games this year than Dell, Ingham and Rittich combined in the AHL, is 5th in the league in GAA and 2nd in the league in SV%. He's proved his ability, time for the Kings to see if this 6'6" netminder is their long-term NHL minder in the crease.

It would be great if he can make the team next year. I was surprised how unpolished his game was before the season but if he can make the next step that would be huge for the team. A big body in net that you can depend on for 10 years is not an easy find.

Never doubt the greatest that is OUR very own LA Kings GM -- Mr. Rob Blake. We're lucky to have him. He knows more than all of us....combined (except for GBH of course)

The stretch drive and playoffs is the final exams for all players, Kings and Reign, so until that its hard to see who beyond Portillo will still be here.

Talbot and Rittich will be heavily evaluated by the entire league.
Catch 22, with these two UFA's , the better they do the higher salary they will command to the point where the Kings may not be able to afford them.

Maybe Blake should hand out 2 year contracts, to these patch the tire goalies and flip them at the deadline if he is not satisfied.

The narrative will be attract another similar type veteran goalie (or two) and let them battle it out at camp with every GT in attendance.
Portillo could earn a spot on the Kings but he would be the backup and not jump up to starter.
He would have to earn starter , before the trade deadline so Blake, who we still be the GM can maneuver at that time.

If the Kings delude themselves into thinking they’re contenders again next year then they will have gone out and gotten a starter, stopgap backup, and journeyman vet with NHL experience who can plug and play in case of an injury. That guy playing the Rittich/Copley/Sparks/Grosenick role will need to get lots of games to stay sharp so Portillo will likely be relegated to another year of platoon backup status in the AHL.

Remarkable. Fagemo returns to the line up after being sidelined due to an injury and scores twice including the game winner in OT. 39 goals in 44 games. I'm not sure how that lines with up other players in recent AHL history, but that has to be up there in the goal scoring department. Gaudette has 38 goals this year, but 16 more games played. Reign now 15-3-3 in their last 21. Hats off to Sturm who has them playing very well despite the injuries and call ups.

Vatrano had 36 in 36 in 2015-2016, that's the closest approximation I could find in the last decade. A few guys have put up more goals, but not per game--Frk had 40 in 58 and Noesen had 48 in 70 a few years ago but that's not quite the same thing, and really the only couple of guys who have put up more raw goals despite more games.
