Far from fair. Not many 60 pt 2nd line centres out there making 7.5m. I believe he’s overpaid by about 2m. And that’s taking into consideration the tangibles he brings to the table.

that sounds like an extremely awkward dinner party.

Probably Bergevin will trade 3OA for ROR and become a wildcard team to save his job, but Montreal will regret it if that happens.

Really, not necessarily. Without ROR playing 1C, Eichel's minutes get much harder.

ROR would get more points on Eichel's wing than Max Pac, because he at least would get them out of their own zone faster. Or, hell, move Eichel to ROR's wing. Either is better.

You do know Pacioretty played with 3rd line centers all his career right? I think it's very solid production considering the scrubs he played with as centers.

Not sure ROR scores 30 goals and do 60 points playing with David Desharnais and Dale Weise. In fact i'm pretty certain he is not.

The Habs are taking Kotkaniemi, an 18 year old center, probably shouldn't play in the NHL next year but they will to please the fans. He won't improve the Habs at all next year and that will cost Bergeron his job which would make Habs fans happy. Bergeron will understand this and trade the 3rd for ROR unless Botterill's an idiot and takes some other package of players/picks.

Who’s Bergeron?

A 3rd overall for ROR is potentially a very bad trade.

I suggest going through the history of drafts and try find a 3rd pick who has more value the ROR. Sure there is some but more often then not ROR is the better player

2017 Miro Heiskanen
2016 Pierre-Luc Dubois
2015 Dylan Strome
2014 Leon Draisaitl
2013 Jonathan Drouin
2012 Alex Galchenyuk
2011 Jonathan Huberdeau
2010 Erik Gudbranson
2009 Matt Duchene
2008 Zach Bogosian
2007 Kyle Turris
2006 Jonathan Toews
2005 Jack Johnson
2004 Cam Barker
2003 Nathan Horton
2002 Jay Bouwmeester
2001 Alexandr Svitov
2000 Marian Gaborik
1999 Henrik Sedin
1998 Brad Stuart

Of that bunch I take Sedin, Toews, Duchene and maybe Bouwmeester? The last 4 is to early to make a judgement

Jason Botterill doesn't strike me, or anyone else for that matter, as a liar.

Then, he's unqualified for the job he holds.

Being coy and deceptive about what you're doing and what offers you have on the table is an integral part of trade-making; it's liar's poker, not go fish.

You can’t trade the 3OA for RoR! Hf board exclaims days after 3OA pick Galchenyuk is traded for Max Domi and the 5 whole goals he scored while someone was in net to try and stop him.

They are done rebuilding.
They have Eichel, Dahlin, Casey, Nylander, Reinhart, Ristolainen, etc. Their goal should be to make the playoffs next season

How does losing RoR to get Patcioretty make the team better?

How does leaving a core that has regressed all the way back to last place with a room on fire and then letting two top teenage prospects burn in it makes the team better?

Last place teams make major changes.

Pacioretty wouldn't be the only thing coming.

Better be a LOT more... Pacioretty does nothing to help the Sabres long term. If 3oa is a no go a package like Poehling, Mete, Scherbak, and next year's 1st seems to fit Montreal wanting to win now and Buffalo adding to its young core.

The top 6 on Buffalo wasn't great, but it wasn't why they shit the bed. Their bottom 6 played worse 5v5 than their opposition did 4v5.

Because a team in Montreal's position isn't going to suddenly get good with the addition of ROR? Pacioretty is going to get a raise, Price/Weber have terrible cap hits. Best course would be to deal Pacioretty for a high pick/top prospect, deal Weber this season after he gets a chance to prove he's still a high quality D, and pray Price can return to form.

Maybe in 2-3 years the core would be decent. The age group will be all close to each other and on ELCs. With ROR, it means they need to try to win now...which they aren't close to being good enough.

Drouin isn't even close and Strome literally hasn't even done much in the NHL really despite given a lot of time to develop. Duchene produces around the same without the defensive game O'Reily has.
