Interesting thread on the main boards on Pesce possibly being traded. buff fans offering 13OV + Jokahru (sp). For a signed Pesce.

Probably makes sense to target cheap 3rd paring guys in FA if there is any that are available.

Maybe if we can trade Garland we can package that return for a D and then recuperate a pick in sept when Myers is tradeable.

the third pairing isn't the problem. you can plug some combination of hirose, wolanin, brisebois, burroughs, juulsen and maybe even johansson, woo and rathbone in there and probably be fine. sign someone like hagg or oesterle if you think you need a vet

the problem is finding partners for hughes and hronek. do they keep myers and hope he and hughes can look okay together? resign bear and wait until he's healthy? that still leaves hronek without a partner. you can't buyout oel and then pin all your hopes on hirose or wolanin being able to carry top 4 minutes

buying out oel only really makes sense if they have a plan to go after at least one and probably two top 4 guys either as free agents or in trade. for free agents you can pay graves what he wants, try to rehab klingberg or i guess sign orlov but that's really it. otherwise you're gambling on dumba or soucy or holl stepping up

i don't really like the trade options either. lots of older guys on bad contracts like sanheim and krug and guys that are good but will cost to acquire like hanifin, carlo and pesce. taking semi-cap dumps or castoffs like peeke or grzelcyk doesn't seem likely to work too well

I would not be at all surprised if they spent their nut on Orlov and in 4 years we are talking about how buying him out makes financial sense so that the team can replicate the great playoff run of 2026 (second round exit)
If the plan was to create this cap space so we can sign a free agent, then we should have kept OEL for another year. Free agency is always just bad.

Maybe they have a hockey trade up their sleeve. Or maybe they are going to trade the 11th pick for a roster player

I feel like every year there’s a D-man who gets dealt for under market value by a team needing to make space. Like Schmidt, Toews, and Marino. Maybe we can take advantage of this type of deal.
Pesce isn't worth including the 11th pick if that's what you're suggesting.

My gut says Sanheim is the kind of player they target, but I have no idea of the price given that we'd be implicitly doing the Flyers a solid by ridding them of cap commitment during their rebuild (which they could use to further farm more assets). Basically anything we give up would feel like too much. Feels even worse in the context/fallout of OEL.

Other than that, I don't see them looking at a short term vet or anyone enticed by swapping for Garland/Boeser. They could swing for an RFA (Durzi?) using Hoglander/Podkolzin.

The only thing I know for sure is that by buying out OEL so early they've made the statement that they want to do something and utilize the cap space sooner than later.

They could probably get both Sanheim and Laughton for the 11 OV + Myers. However I think we need to keep the first to rebuild the prospect pool.

I am really not sure Sanheim’s worth. He has good advanced stats but did not get along with Torts. If they want to dump the contract, it could be something like a late first or 2nd + prospect type value.

Could be a target if we decide to trade back in the first and pick up a second. 11OV and Myers for 19 OV + 44OV, then use 44OV + Rathbone for Sanheim and draft Simashev at 19.

Something similar might also make sense for Laughton instead of Sanheim.

I mean, it has to be Gudbranson and his 4 million/yr contract for another 3 years, right?

A big RHD that can skate and beat the tar out of anyone who even looks in Quinn’s direction…

I shouldn’t even joke about that knowing JR loves him.

How Canuck would it be to buy out OEL only to use the cap savings to turn around and make that trade?

Graves is a garbage player. 6’5 and nothing else. Mayfield, Orlov, Connor Murphy, Pesce, Peeke, Hanifin, Tanev, Weegar, Andersson are the players we should be going after.

Chychrun is constantly injured and is a UFA at the end of this deal with only 2 years to go. Hronek is a better acquisition.
Disagree, Hronek is only nice because he’s RHD. Chychrun gets injured a lot because he plays big minutes and blocks/hits a lot. His points last season look lower because Ghost was playing top PP minutes. Chychrun is a top 10 dman in this league imo.
