I know we'll have the vote in a month or so. But it feels unique that a draft happened, with 3 top 60 picks and I don't think we have any in the top 10 of our pool.

Here's where I'm at.

1) Wallstedt
2)Faber
3)Rossi
4)Yurov
5)Ohgren
6)Marat
7)Lambos
8)Beckman
9)Walker
10)Hunt

I dunno, maybe Stramel or Heidt fits in late in the top 10. But i guess i give credence to Beckman and Walkers NHL readiness. But Haight, Bankers, ROR, Peart, all right there as well.

A top-10 is hard for me (TBH my rankings are far off the norm on here). So many of the prospects are just interchangeable me. It's basically Wallstedt 1st and then throw the names in a hat and pick.

So I'll do something different:

C:
Stramel
Kumpulainen
Bankier

Wing:
Ohgren/Yurov
Rossi/Marat K
Walker/Beckman/Heidt
Milne

LD:
Lambos/Hunt/ROR/Peart (they are all the same to me)

RD:
Faber
Spacek
S. Jo

G:
Wallstedt

I personally see a clear top 3 based on skill and likelihood to he an NHL player in Wallsted, Faber and Rossi.

Wallstedt's AHL numbers at his age are basically only matched by Askarov and HOFers.(those two might be the next Roy Brodeur).

After what we saw of Faber I'm convinced his floor is a 4.

Rossi will be an NHLer I believe. Just a matter of if he sticks at C.

I don't see Rossi as anything close to a sure bet for the NHL (other than draft position will gifting him a spot).

Faber is the same boat as LD of ROR/Lambos/etc. Just a bunch of 2nd pair d-men.

Got tricky for me at 8, considered Bankier/Hunt/Spacek. The 3 guys I preferred at 21 would be 6(Ritchie) or 7(Stenberg/Perrault).

I see the argument on Rossi, I disagree. But I see it.

Faber is definitely not in the same boat as the rest.l you mentioned. We've seen him play in the NHL. Seen him play well in high leverage situations.

He's gonna be a player, and predict him and Brodin will be the best shut down pair in the league this year.

Only question on his ceiling is how does the offense develop.

I probably shouldn't pretend to know what I'm talking about here, but this is roughly how I see it right now:

Wallstedt
Faber
Rossi
Yurov
Khusnutdinov
Ohgren
Stramel
Heidt
Hunt
Peart
Spacek

I tried to balance upside, development trajectory, and current readiness for the NHL fairly evenly. There are also 11 players listed, I have Hunt, Peart, and Spacek all tied for basically the same spot. Lambos, Kumpulainen, and O'Rourke fell just outside this ranking.

A 2nd pair D is highly valuable, even if just as a trade chip. If Lambos & ROR turn out as good as Faber, we will be in an excellent spot

I feel that if Faber is top 3, our pool is really lacking. I need to see something more for me to not view him as Adam Larsson 2.0

Wallstedt - upside: NHL All-Star

Faber - likely top-pairing
Lambos - possible top-pairing
Yurov - possible top-six
Rossi - possible top-six

Heidt - possible middle-six
Stramel - likely bottom-six
Ohgren - likely bottom-six

Khusnutdinov - unlikely top-six
Beckman - unlikely top-six

If Faber had 1/2 the offensive upside as McAvoy he would be higher on my list.

The amount of 20 year old defenders who could step in at the end of a season, and claim a spot for the playoffs isn't terribly large. That's impressive. The offense will come, and as long as he gets Hjalmmarson territory, that's a valuable player.

Faber is McDonagh-lite until proven otherwise, either direction.
You know what's funny about this? My parents and I saw the badgers a number of times while he was at Wisconsin, including season tickets for his freshman year 07-08. I don't remember if it was that freshman year, but there was a game where McDonagh tripped over the badgers' net, turned the puck over, and the other team scored shortly there after. My mother still does not like McDonagh to this day because of that play. Whenever I bring him up she calls him "Donut" and shakes her head

But I actually think the McDonagh comparison is great. I view that as near Faber's ceiling.
