After watching Mark's press conference, I have to say I have never seen Mark this upset. It looks like Bowman has an in for him. First raising parking prices only around the MTS centre and now this. I'm glad I don't live in Winnipeg. The budget could be ugly. So I ask you all, who do you believe?

I'm with Mark. (Guess I'm a Mark fanboy)

That development looks amazing. Whoever is right/wrong here, I just want them to resolve their differences and build it.

I haven't been following the situation that closely, but I did watch Chipman's video today. What struck me most about it is that he chose to do this all in public, rather than work it out in private with Bowman directly.

I'm not saying that's the wrong decision. Bowman himself seems to have been the one who chose to do things in public first. But Chipman's response is, as Bugs Bunny would say, "Of course you realize, this means war!"

Chipper was instrumental in getting Bowman elected, wonder if he would endorse him now.

Isn't the former head of CV Chipman's brother in law? My beef is spending close to 7 million on Carlton Inn and then giving it to TN for market value. Which as a parking lot is about 2 million.

Chipman took advantage of an opportunity he shouldn't have had. Not a really greasy move, just business. To be honest, I don't quite understand why he's upset or why he feels his reputation was damaged. It wasn't.

The problem is that there was no oversight in this city around land deals. The previous CAO gave responsibilities to people who are not in a position to negotiate land deals (like CentreVenture, the Fire Department and Police Service) because he could then control the process and keep the information away from council until it was too late to actually reverse the decisions made by the CAO and whoever he had negotiating the deal. This is a perfect example. Hopefully the next crew of executives, including the mayor, act with a little more integrity and follow the process of City Hall to let the people we elect make decisions with all information available.

They mayor better have multi hundred million dollar land developer in his back pocket or if TN pulls out and that lot sits empty or gets a Super 8 built on it he will look very foolish.

Kevin chief has verified both him and the mayor saw the video in November so for they mayor to say he has no idea where it was going is just short of lying?

The whole problem is that the mayor didn't act with integrity by saying that everything was vague and the location wasn't even known. The video clearly shows our shinny new mayor was lying....You know the video he saw several months ago. This was and is not a back door Shindico deal. As another poster said I just hope he has another $400,000,000 investor in his back pocket

Well, not to get too nasty... but if TN decided to pull out because of "trust" with the city, the city and province could certainly re-examine those tax breaks and casino revenues due to "trust" as well...

It was a back door deal, just an ignorant one on the part of CentreVenture, not a Shady Sheegl special. When did the details of this land deal hit the floor of council? Our mayor isn't a dictator, so whether he saw that video or not it doesn't change the fact that the proper process was not followed.

Just saw that video. BB better address the public soon. Hope he likes crow. I think he is going to be eating a lot of it.

Please don't be in such a hurry to defend the mayor!!! He said he didn't see it....which has now come out as a known lie!! Lets see what other lies are out there before we start crapping on Mr. Chipman.

Kevin Chief is on True norths board of directors....lol

Richard Olfert is the Secretary-Treasurer of CentreVenture and HIS BROTHER John Olfert is the Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer at True North.

The mayor said the budget won't be good. I feel sorry for the people of Winnipeg. Might have sticker shock.

So we should give more deals to super rich guys? I find it weird how people often side with the super rich when they ain't one. They've stacked the deck in their favour.

I would agree with you but Chipman is the only one that is willing to fix up that craphole of downtown Winnipeg. The city doesn't have the money to do it. They will get lots of tax money from True North Centre once it's built.

It's kind of too bad. Chipman looks bad. True North looks bad. CentreVenture look like crooks.

True North should bow out gracefully.

I read the article too. He thinks everyone is a crook. Who isn't then? Until I hear BB I am still siding with MC.

On the whole tax breaks for the rich thing (TNSE), I'm kinda of two minds. I get that even with the tax breaks, it's a net benefit for the city. So practically speaking, it is a good deal.

From a more ideological viewpoint, it seems bogus. Why should small businesses, or even the average worker with less money and less power have to pay more taxes?

So, I look at it as kind of a necessary evil, due to a corrupt system. The rich get richer...

I don't blame Chipman. As a businessman, you take what you can get, or you get nowhere.
