"Won" is a strong word. "Was gifted" is more fitting regarding 2016. (Tom Wilson's production was similar in 2018 to Crosby's in 2016, except Wilson is very good defensively).

Sorry to make you sad.

If Crosby was gifted that one, what do you call Ovechkin's? Because Kuznetsov outscored him by way more than Kessel outscored Crosby.

I think it's time to admit that Crosby is no longer the best in the world. He has clearly been surpassed by Malkin, The true best.

Crosby is washed. Even though he is just coming off a playoffs where he scored almost 2 points a a game.

He could put up 3 points next game and all of a sudden has his career ppg going, it’s that early.

Are you really trying to compare Wilson to Crosby?
Don't worry you aren't making anyone sad.
:laugh::laugh:

Tom Wilson's playoff run was nearly as good as the one where Crosby was wrongly awarded the Conn Smythe. It was the consensus as the weakest post lockout smythe in the history forum for many reasons.

Wilson had 15 points in 21 games. .714 PPG. .24 GPG. +/- plus 11. And was great on the PK.

Crosby had 19 points in 24 games. .79 PPG. .25 GPG. +/- negative 2.

^^^Those are undeniably comparable stats and contributions.

Crosby won his first Smythe over Logan Couture due to bias - same reason he was getting Lady Byng "sportsmanship" votes two Months after doing this:

Logan Couture

It's rare for losing teams to win the Smythe to begin with and a forward has never done it.

Couture wasn't even the Sharks' best player in the finals anyways. Martin Jones was. Pens dominated that series and Jones was the only reason it wasn't a complete rout.

Your comments are irrelevant. The Smythe has no such constraint about being on the winning team or criteria being restricted to the finals.

Regardless, Couture was better in the finals than Crosby.

Both Crosby and Ovechkin won their first Smythe for their reputation. Crosby was 3 pts behind the leader while Ovechkin was 5

Couture was on the opposing team. When was the last time a skater won the Conn-Smythe when his team lost?
In 1976 Reggie Leach won CS with 7 points more than 3d player

Couture lost CS with 11 points more to 7th player

It's only a handful of games in. Nothing happened to Crosby, he's had slow starts for the last 5 seasons. He always picks it up mid-late season. I'd expect the same thing this year. No he's not the best player in the league anymore, but he's still a premier top 5 player in the league

Crosby is lucky to have Malkin and Kessel on his team, they do the dirty work in the RS, so he can shine in the playoffs.:naughty:

Ovechkin lead his team and the playoffs with 15 goals and had 27 points in 23 games. Crosby had 19 in 23 and had little significance goal scoring or playmaking. Sure, Kuzy deserved it just as much, but Ovechkin still had a better run his year than Crosy. Not to mention Ovechkin had a much better finals than Crosby did.

If your going to use Ovechkins to argue for Crosby, please understand that one is not like the other. Ovechkin or Kuzy would have been Smythe winners in 2016, where as Crosby wouldn’t have sniffed it most years.

Ovechkin led the playoffs in goals, PPG+, was near the top in hits, +8. Not the strongest smythe post lockout, but definitely not near the bottom either. Middle of the pack.

Crosby wasn't even PPG and was a minus player. 100% reputation based. Worst smythe post lockout.

It's the McDavid factor Started after the 16/17 season when he lost out to McDavid on the Hart and Pearson , his numbers declined last year as well, and he has lost motivation . Same thing happened to Lafleur after gretzky enetered the league , Lafleur even admitted his ego took a hit and he was not nearly as motivated as he was being king of the hill.

Or or or... he’s just getting a bit older, slower and taking longer to wind up to form

Kessel wasn’t PPG either.. the difference was the level of play. It was a weak year for offensive players for the Pens in these playoffs, but like I said, Kuznetsov deserved it as much as Ovechkin...
