Who do you guys envision for our bottom pair LHD? a Mcquaid/Miller pairing?

Any chance we'd take a flyer on Kulikov? His stock is low, he's underperformed in top 4 roles the past couple contract. Could possibly be had for a 1 year flyer. He's a mobile LHD. A bottom pair role, ~19mins might be something he could wrap his head around. Or are we looking from within for that spot?

Just because I don't want Marleau and Thornton doesn't mean I am okay with Spooner, Beleskey and Hayes. It also doesn't mean, I have the answers. Just stating my opinion. No reason to get snarky about it.

My bad, I guess we just disagree on the players usefulness. Lots of cup winning teams have older vets that are still looking for a cup or are at the end of their careers.

I was thinking Morrow until yesterday. Maybe they think O'Gara is ready? Wouldn't hurt to sign a guy like Kulikov to a cheap contract.

Unless there's a trade, I don't see them willingly sitting either one of them if they are healthy. I do think they should get proper LHD to play on the bottom pair and sit one of the RHD, but then we are sitting 2.5+ million in the pressbox.

Not my ideal roster, but it is what it is.

part of me likes this...

but part of me likes Pasta - Krejci - Yak

Yak's not good enough to make Krejci play better. And Pasta couldn't do it on his own.

I'd say Yak with Bergeron / Marchand if it's cheap.

I don't see our management going that direction.

people get angry when it gets suggested krug play a 3rd pair... so i try to avoid numbering the pairs now... but

if theres no further player moves we are sitting with 6 dmen that need to play and then some unknowns

chara lhs will play more than 20 mins.. evs shutdown... pk... he is likely to pair with carlo for that reason but he might end up playing with everyone at times

krug lhs meanwhile will be asked to run the pp until he needs a rest. hes undersized and plays better 5x5 when he has a bigger physical partner. mcquaid has fit here in the past. give these 2 guys sheltered 5x5 mins and it brings out the best in them. mcquaid will also see time on pk without krug

mcavoy has a chance to be our best all-round dman... or he might go through growing pains. either way i would ideally like to find him a mobile vet lhs to partner with... but if that cant be done, process of elimination says kevan miller ends up here with chara sometimes double shifting. mcavoy will probably see pp time without miller. miller wont be on pp

so everyone breaks up for special teams meaning everyone will play some time with mixed partners following penalties

i predict OGara will grab the 7th spot

if there is a trade i predict one of mcquaid/miller gets moved to bring in a left shot guy who would then slide in with mcavoy

my top 5 possible trade targets based on logic rumors

1/marco scandella
2/ calvin de haan
3/ alex edler
4/ dion phaneuf
5/ jonas brodin

i dont see the team wanting to play miller and mcquaid together

It would probably be:

Chara-Carlo
Krug-McQuaid
K. Miller-McAvoy

rather than having a McQuaid/Miller pairing

EDIT: K. Miller is just habit now....

I realize posters want to bring in guys they know like Simon Gagne or Stephane Yelle over Sobotka and Nate Thompson

Rather see the kids

The children are our future :handclap:

i see kids breaking into the lineup all the time.. our cup winning team had bergeron, krejci, marchand, lucic, and even seguin on it... dougie hamilton was given time here as a kid.. kevan miller, johnny boychuk, adam mcquaid, torey krug all cut their teeth here.. tuuka rask is a home grown kid

all these guys and more have been brought along the right way... only a few at a time.. supported by culture/leadership... put in position to succeed

the number of busts we have at nhl level is nominal... if a guy isnt good enough he never sees the light of day... even the thornton, kessel, wheeler, seguins have been started on 4th lines to break them in slow but sure

bergeron was playing rw with lapointe his first year to break him in slow but sure... marchand was buried deep on the 4th line and only playing 20 games to break him in sure but slow

weve all been there... upset that ivan huml, or jared knight, or anthony camera, or hannu toivonen arent getting a chance to play on the top lines... but sometimes these prized kids arent good enough. i know im still upset wes walz and shayne stevenson wernt given top 6 opportunity here...

but barry pederson and craig janney and joe juneau made it because we do play the kids that PROVE they can handle it.

not many kids flunk out here and go on to make us sorry. i guess sobotka... the guy in dallas... versteeg... how many others are there? hunwick? does he fill us with regret? colbourne?

im ok how we do things

What about Patrick Sharp for Krejci's LW? Solid 2-way guy, a wealth of playoff experience, and can play center if needed.

Teams need to be wary of Sharp and Kulikov.

Sharp reportedly was injured enough that at last year's deadline teams were interested but Dallas wouldn't move him.

Kulikov had that freak accident into the player's bench door, and was never the same after that.

Buyer beware on both.

You don't think teams would take on DK? He's one of the few pieces on this team that could easily be flipped. Teams would line up for a package of DK and Mcquaid. That's $10 mil off the books right there. Plenty of space for someone like Draisaitl

Who are these teams with all this free cap space?

Daley could heck of a stop gap, if he takes shorter contract. Criminally underrated guy.

I like Daley at 2 years/$8m or less. He seems like a perfect fit with Miller on the 3rd pair and he can kill. Good skater and pushes the pace. He'd be a good fit.

Top free agent wings: Alexander Radulov, Jaromir Jagr set to hit market
-Thomas Vanek, Patrick Marleau also among those expected to be available July 1

https://www.nhl.com/news/top-free-a...r-set-to-hit-market/c-290172638?tid=281072352

Interesting that the article has Boston as a possible destination for some of these wingers. Don't know what they base that on - perhaps just the fact that the Bruins are probably looking for a winger, price, cap space, etc? But according to them, the B's - as well as other teams - might be a landing place for Marleau, Justin Williams, Sharp, Vrbata or Iginla.

based on need... bruins have 2 or maybe 3 proven top 6 wingers depending if backes is center or wing... and our 3rd line isnt loaded with guys who can step up unless you count hayes/belesky.

doesnt take a hockey guru to know wed like an upgrade, however... there is that pesky cap to consider.

of these available wingers how many would sign for what we can afford?
