What range of record would you require to consider hiring Nasreddine as HC?

What range would you keep Nas?

You would think so but GM's don't generally think like that. Especially since it's not always as cut and dry as fans like to make it out to be with GM's only getting two coaches. How many coaches did Lou churn through BEFORE he started having any real success in the mid-'90's?

Besides, the guy just hitched his wagon to Hynes for five years and went down with the Bylsma ship in Pittsburgh, I don't think he's going to change his stripes now. Nas getting the team to rally in the second half is only going to confirm Shero's bias toward his beliefs and his program.

You may be right about that and this is what is going to AGGRAVATE ME.

I swear...if Laviolette or Cooper is available and he decides to re-sign Nas, I will be VERY PISSED. :madfire::madfire::madfire:

^^^^ Excuse the bump but based on my last post, I need to say this :

Lavi is now available so the puck is on Shero's hockey stick right now.

With Lavi available, it could be an easy tap-in score for a much-needed NHL Head Coach.

*praying that Ray doesn't miss this Empty-Netter* :crossfing

If we can even get within shouting range of a playoff spot I think that would be enough to strongly consider bringing him back.

Now, at this point I think Nas benefits from zero pressure, it's easy to let the guys play free and lose when losing games has little consequence. So there is the question of how he, and his team would respond going into next year with expectations. And if the team finishes strong this season and he is brought back there will be expectations.

Pretty much this. This on top of Shero seemingly not wanting to fire coaches...makes me hesitant of an unknown. There's a pretty big difference between the experienced and inexperienced coaches when it comes to winning when it matters. It's a lot easier when there's 0 pressure and 0 expectations.

The other problem besides my belief Shero doesn't want to hire a big-name coach is that Lavi's not taking this job midseason regardless. Nashville's attractive for a guy like Hynes cause they're just on the outside of the playoff chase so you could entice someone to parachute in midseason, but there's really no incentive for Lavi to come here before April to coach meaningless games other than getting an extended 2020 preseason of evaluation, but most coaches would rather get paid to do nothing instead of coaching a glorified preseason.

And by the time it does get to April you'll have other teams, certainly in better situations than us with coach openings. As much as I don't think Shero wants Lavi, it ain't entirely up to him anyway, it certainly won't be by April.

So what's your prediction?

Shero pisses most of us off and sticks with the Hynes Left-overs or will there be a Head Coach available that even he can't balk at?

If they somehow finish above 85 points, Nas stays. More likely they don't, and Shero just hires some other faceless assistant with a connection or a vouch...maybe Poile lets him take one of his guys :P

There is a lot of guessing and assuming with not a lot of backing up of the facts going on in this thread.

The fact is Bylsma, Hynes and Nasreddine are Shero's coaching hires in 13 years of being a GM, all first-time coaches who were assistants or AHL guys. It'd be going against type to hire someone with experience or wattage.

It is kind of crazy that in 13 years as a GM with two different franchises Shero has only hired two head coaches himself. He inherited Therrien when he took over the Pens and Nas is technically (and hopefully) only an interim.

I actually feel like Shero will TRY to go big and have said it even before Hynes got fired, when it became apparent that Hynes wouldn't be here beyond the end of this season at the very latest.

I could be wrong though.

Sheros butt is now on the hot seat going forward so he better go big.

He better go outside of comfort zone as well. I think if he tries to bring in another connection from his Penguins days it should be a fireable offense on the spot. The team needs an outsider.

The "Shero only hires people from Pittsburgh" narrative is old and not even factual if you look at the organization as a whole.

Well if he does go big, and Cooper is NOT available this offseason but Lavi is?

That's as big as you can get, despite some here being lukewarm toward the idea.

I still look for Cooper to get fired if the Lightning disappoint in the playoffs again. I wouldn't be surprised if a loss in the conference finals got Cooper fired after this year.

And if he does get fired, I'd have to think Yzerman does whatever he can to bring him into Detroit. That's gotta be probably the biggest reason that TRASHill still has his job.

As good of a job as he’s doing right now, I still think the Devils need to find a coach with some experience. Someone with a proven track record of consistently churning out winning teams.

Laviolette, Cooper, and Boudreau (if he doesn’t re-up in Minnesota) are on the top of that list for me.

Nas is intriguing.

He has the team play sound defensively (with some brainfarta here and there). Looks to be an amazing communicator.

We went neck and neck with the best teams in the league 10 days ago and we just destroyed the Caps.

Would love Cooper here. That Tampa team is super talented but they never back down from the hard areas of the ice and still maintain a speed game.
