I mean the other option is Mueller, do we really want him over Tennyson?

Yes and I'm the furthest thing from a Mueller fan. But Mueller never leaves his own blue line while Tennyson tries to go all over the place and push the tempo, which is why the staff plays him over Mueller, even if he's demonstrably worse at actually doing defensive work.

When does Carrick get his bionic finger so he can play over either of these guys?

Doubt Hynes is gonna change a thing on D while we won a game finally.

The only roster change would be if Bratt is out and that would definitely be a Gusev spot.

I wouldn't mind Mueller in over Tennyson, personally, but i doubt it will happen until the team loses again.

Choosing between Mueller and Tennyson is like choosing which turd smells slightly less like ****.

Lots of positive signs
-Nico looking really good
-Hughes pots another goal and looks good on both ends of the ice
-Hall looks better
-Wood with a great game we needed
-4th line was fantastic tonight
-No Hayden
-Bratt looked good again
-Vats was solid again
-PK was good aside from that one awful decision that led to a Carolina goal
-Severson looked really good
-PP looking better
-Blackwood was solid tonight

Bad
-Zajac and Coleman look off
-Bratt injury
-How the hell is Tennyson playing

Yes*12.
I think zajac line have a big ask of shutting down top lines, and Carolinas staal line is an underrated handful.

Mueller plays the left side and they are reluctant to have two pairs with offside guys. They're clearly reluctant to play Subban with Greene or Butcher, so they don't want to switch that up. I do think they will soon though.

Shame they played at a 27 point pace the first 6

The key is if the Devils can continue the pace they are currently on.

Personally, I think this upcoming Western Canada trip will sink them and they will go 0-4.

I have zero expectations that the Devils win any of those games.

The 4th line did look better with Wayne down there. Wood definitely had a better game. Rooney is still useless but he is less useless then Hayden.

Hynes usage still bugs me.
I think the forward lines are almost set:

Hall-Hughes-Palmieri

I think it is best for Jack's development to stay with Hall. Both Hall and Palms can finish his setups.

Zacha-Hischier-Bratt

Finally a 2nd line that clicks. I'm not big on Zacha in the top 6 but you got to love how he has started the season thus far.

Gusev/Boqvist-Zajac-Coleman

Gusev and Boqvist are both learning NHL for the first time. They need to be with a couple of defensive responsible pros to help them along. Zajac and Coleman are perfect for that. I think this would be a good fit once Gusev is back in the lineup.

Wood-Rooney-Simmonds

Perfect 4th line that offers grit and energy. We also help to manage Simmonds minutes so he doesnt burn out in the 2nd half of the season. He fell off a cliff after the deadline last year. 4th line + PP time is the perfect role for him.

The defense however needs some more tinkering.

Severson is slowly starting to come good. He might be the one that sticks with PK Subban.

As for Greene-Vatanen. I'm not convinced. I think we need to push Greene down and promote Butcher up.

Greene-Carrick could be a solid bottom pairing D, when Carrick is healed.

A .500 record in OT/SO would put us at 5-5-2 on the season, which would be a miracle considering we played like trash the first three weeks of the season,

The Devils now have 4 points in the last three games. Time to lock up the coach for the future. :sarcasm:

I've been hard on Nico's offense or lack of it, but that goal was a beauty. I want him to be more like that, shooting with confidence, using his speed to make things happen instead of just settling for rebounds or redirects. He needs to be over 200 shots.

The Vancouver game could be REALLY ugly.

He’s been playing hurt (rib injury) according to what one hears but is apparently able to play more freely now. But any way you cut it, yes, last night was one of his best games and against very tough match ups too. His line combination with Zacha and Bratt or whoever also looks great plus he’s been excellent on the power play. That primary assist set up of Vats on Friday night for a game tying goal, turning on a dime, faking the defender off his feet, drawing the defense and then passing back to Vats was highlight reel. With last night, that’s 2 highlight reel plays in 2 games, both coming down that left side of the zone.
