The last 6 years, Simmonds has averaged 28.6 ES points. Taking him off the PP and replacing him with Patrick, makes Simmonds a sub 40 point winger.

That is not someone you re-sign for 5-6 years in his 30's at 5-7 million a year.

We can find a 30 point ES winger for 2 million.

It’s not so much the trade assets as it is just avoiding a really bad contract when it comes to moving Simmonds. So for me it’s not even a case of it having to be a big overpayment or he’s not moving.

Oilers have a massive anchor in Looch, below Zero chance they try and re do that bad deal with Simmonds now.
