Maybe it's just broken with a lot of swelling and it'll be difficult to breathe with the shield on, so having a shield plus swelling would be too much of a pain. They'll let the swelling go down and then he'll be back.

Could be. Or it's a really serious break that means Dumo gets to pick a new nose. I kid, they probably wouldn't be able to tell that yet.

He hit his head on the glass and clutched it, iirc, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's a concussion.

He did because that's how the medical staff rolls. :help:

Everyone was relieved and then he disappeared again... This isn't new for them.

It's because they use regular tape off the roll and it comes off easy. They don't bother using duct tape or Dumo wont miss a beat. They save duct tape for Kunitz.

Rossi was sayin (I know it's rossi) that he was talking to sources with direct knowledge and that the Pens are hopeful that Maatta will be ready for the playoffs and that Geno *might* be ready for the 2nd round but that it was "a difficult injury to heal" and he would not ready for the 1st round of the playoffs.

take it for what it's worth...

Maatta back for the playoffs will work. That's what I was expecting to begin with. With our current chances, rest him and Dumoulin until round one. Get everyone healthy.

Just nice to have Cole, Schultz, Pouliot, and Lovejoy as depth.

Health...our playoff hopes depend 100% on health. Health, health, HEALTH! We need it.

If we can run:

Kunitz-Crosby-Hornqvist
Hagelin-Bonino-Kessel
Kuhnhackl-Cullen-Rust
Bennett-Fehr-Sheary/Sundqvist/etc

Maatta-Letang
Dumo-Daley
Cole-Schultz
Pouliot-Lovejoy

reliably in the playoffs, I think we could be okay. Just makes us that much stronger when Malkin gets back. I'm worried though because it always seems to take him a couple games to get back into it...but at least he'll be rested.

Health...get it. We need it...we live and die on it.

Obviously it's impossible to make any guesses about what lines will be a month ago, but I wouldn't be upset if they slot Malkin in on the third when he returns. Keep that awesome 2nd line together, Let Malkin play with Bennett and Rust/Fehr/Kuhn. Limit his ice time and let him ramp up his time as he feels more comfortable.

I agree. The team is playing far too good of hockey right now (and it looks sustainable, to me) to mess with things too much. Frankly, I'd be just fine with Malkin sitting out the rest of the year, regardless. They don't need him to win. "His" line is better off without him... especially if the Malkin we are talking about is coming off a two month layoff due to (yet another) injury and is basically a detriment, anyway.

Let him be a powerplay specialist if/when he can make it back. That's all he basically is these days, anyhow. The team looks outstanding ES without him. Let it continue to do so.
