Pretty high for a scoring winger, which isn't what this team needs.

Nothing against him, but we have a plethora of wingers here.

And to answer your question, they probably asked for something around Gardiner, which is why they even offered him in the division.

I think a deal like:
Kulemin, Finn/Percy, 2014 2nd would have been fair. Vanek would probably have preferred here over NYI since we are much closer

Also, Buffalo was willing to eat salary so cap concerns were not an issue

Agreed. Even though Vanek isn't what we need, he's clearly a great player and in a NON-CAP world you make this deal.

Problem being... in the cap world we live in assets like picks are more valuable AND Vanek would have been a strict rental as they would have certainly no room to keep him beyond this year (unless, I guess, they let Phaneuf walk).

But would have been pretty neat

I agree Erhoff is really good and I was looking at him. But he's old.
